That's pretty steep. I sold my mint XTC Classic AND matching Bogner Uberkab to a fellow Rig-Talker last winter for $2750 shipped and PP'd across the country (cost me $250 to ship).

 where was i when you sold this?! Great deal!

You were around man! You and I PM'd back and forth about it several times. In the end, you told me to get back to you if it didn't sell. It did. ;)

Damn. See what happens when you sit on the pot too long. I blame you for my purchase of my classic shortly thereafter. Actually i THANK you. Great amp

I still contend that the 20th Shiva is a better pure tone amp. Clean is much better and with the mode button it gets heavier (with KTs anyways)

The 20th Shiva is a killer amp, no doubt, but I played both and preferred the 20th XTC's lower-mid focus to the Shiva's more Marshally feel. The clean tone is most certainly NOT better, to me!

I've ordered a modded Marshall to get THAT tone ;-)

I haven't played a Shiva sooooo on that note ….
I had a Cam mod'd rev blue shiva clean on my uber with a pedal switchable boost. The clean on that was more sterile for a lack of better word than my 20th X. With the b1 n b2 on the clean you can shape the clean from thick, warm to fender clean with a bite, not unpleasant to the ear bite. And by "Bite" i don't mean grit or drive, maybe brightness would be a better word.

If the 20th X had a forth channel I would like it to be the Uber or a single channel lunch box head with just the uber tone would be great.

I've got a 101B and it's more or less ended my amp G.A.S. I'd love to try a 20th to see how they compare though...

I owned both the 20th Shiva and 20th Ecstasy and A/B'ed them extensively and while the Shiva is a great amp and you can't take anything away from it, the XTC outclassed it in tone and feel. Just a wider sound with a more pleasant midrange and high end, especially. The clean on both were super nice. Spirit: I felt the same, I'd rather have a Marshall instead of the Shiva.

i miss the hell out of my 20th, easily in my top 2 amps i have ever owned, had to sell mine for medical bills or else i would still have it!!!!!

Don't do it or you'll end up spending a lot of £!

My favorite amp I have owned.

So is your 20th XTC still for sale than?

What's the deal with the 6L6 versus EL34 on the XTC, is one preferred and why doesn't Bogner just make the amp able to work off of either power tube?

You rarely see the el34s up for sale. Reinhold states that 6l6s are what the amps should be played with for full potential of the amp. Personally I'd rather have the El34s in it.

No way the 20 th xtc cleans are near as good as the 20th Shivas. Maybe if you dont really like cleans all that much it doesnt matter. But for players who want a really organic clean or a great clean to use as a platform for pedals....shiva can't be beat. I also think the OD is thicker and angrier on the 20th with KTs. But the blue channel on the XTC and all the range the xtc brings makes it a monster amp.

Possibly the best I have ever heard/played. Haven't played a Marsha yet though...
I have a fully loaded Friedman BE100 (AKA: Marsha) and 2 x Bogner XTC 20th's. (A & B) + Bogner 100B and they're different amps.

Both great but different. BE100 = more Marshall than the XTCs.

I use what I need for the music I'm doing at the time so they both serve their purposes for me.

How can you have GAS when you have it all?!?!?

Seriously jealous.

I don't know that I would go as far as to say it's a better tone amp, but I will confirm that my 20th Shiva gets used live 95% of the time over my Ecstasy. Why? It cuts WAY better in a two guitar band, its WAY easier to dial in and consistently puts a smile on my face. I love my Ecstasy, but sometimes it has one knob/switch/option too many. Great amp for recording though, for sure.

I found the XTC to be thicker than the Shiva....more width to the midrange. The Shiva has a more focused midrange by comparison. I would agree that the Shiva is angrier with the mode button engaged...That said, the XTC's red is definitely meaner than a 101b.

That's one of the biggest differences for me in going from a 101b to a 20th. Much easier to dial in and better cut/less compression. I think the compression is the killer with Ecstasy amps. Best off with an open sounding EL34, KT77 (what I use) or 6L6 in there, which makes me wonder why they use JJ's stock...probably cheaper.

Personally I opted for the EL34 version and a 4 month wait instead of the 20th-A they had in stock with 6L6. I've just preferred EL34s across the board when compared to most other 6L6 heads. I went for the EL34 not able to do an A/B of the two, and honestly, I think I made the right choice - albeit I am certain given the opportunity to only have a 6L6, I'd easily be equally as happy.

They're more rare because they weren't stock. That's really all.

As for their tone? the 20thA is a swiss army knife of tones, and all of them are killer. Granted though, the clean isn't sparkling - it's more dark and rich.

Love 'em!!
Peace Gents, avagoodnight...

Bingo.

Further to this, the Gold Lion KT77 really brought this head to another level - which is almost hard to believe. And they're far from "thrifty" bottles :aww:

But so worth it

Thatsa good way to put it. the x has the squishier more compressed and forgiving tone whereas the Sheeves has a more RAW and in your face tone (with the mode button on). I just personally really like that raw 20th shiva tone the best of all. That said, I dont own a 20th X so maybe its a more raw, less forgiving amp then the 101s.

The 20th X is less compressed and more "open" sounding than the 101b for sure. The perfect XTC!
