Ever been to a U2 concert? F'kn unbelievable... The sounds that come from
the Edge live are mindblowing. You forget he's playing guitar and just hear music coming
from him. U2 are a incredible band. I'm not a die hard fan by any stretch, I give props where
props due. Each band member brings home 1Mil a show after merchandise is what I've heard from
a good friend in the industry. Also who does U2 sound like? I thought so!
To be that original and succesful is non existent these days.

Well Bono could out pose any super model the band does a amazing job. I have seen them many times. I am not a big fan but a friend is and I well always go because they put on a good show.

.... and much like David Gilmour even with a ton of effects the sound is always warm and organic. His phasing is as good as anyone. Even his improvising with rhythmic ideas are interesting. I need to get the EL84's out, the harmonic's you know.

Jimmy Page has been married a very long time and is doing the family thing. The amount of time and money he gives to charity is way beyond what most people could understand. My understanding is his personality that is believed by many is mostly a product of media. He has had many bad experiences with the press ..... and he did not treat them very well back in the day because of this.

I think for the first few albums, Boy and October, it was mostly just guitar (explorer or strat) - Memory Man - AC30 (not sure when he started using two). Think he used an overdrive pedal or two, maybe a boss sd-1?

I think the bigger rig started when they brought Eno and Lanois in to do "The Unforgettable Fire". After going quite delay-less for "War", they went in the other direction and that was the first album that had the really big guitar textures with lots of delay. I think that's when the Edge switched from EH Memory mans to the Korg SDD-3000, which would have meant starting to bring a rack with him on tour. He also started using shimmer which would likely have meant eventide rack harmonisers etc. So I guess round then his rig would have started to get bigger. He also started to use TC delays live because the SDD-3000's can't be midi controlled, a must if you've got different settings per song.

From there I'm not sure it'd have changed much for the Joshua Tree and Rattle and Hum era - The Joshua Tree is plastered with sdd-3000 sounding delays.

For Achtung Baby the Edge really shook up his tones I think - lots of that album was a Korg A3 rack multieffects unit, various distortion boxes and fuzzes, and some cool stuff like the Whammy pedal. By that point the rig had got pretty big and for the Zoo TV tour ('92 i think?) they got Bob Bradshaw to build him a new switching system and rig setup, from that tour on I think the rig was pretty similar to the one you see in the first post - two racks side by side, ac30s to the right and a few other amps - Randall, JC120 or Fender IIRC. One of the reasons the rack is so big is that there's two of everything.

I really like the first three U2 albums, and Joshua Tree was okay, but I haven't been able to get into anything beyond that. There just seemed to be more simplicity and beauty to their music back then.

I used to visit that site all the time. He would have the best rants I've ever read, brilliant.

I really dug U2 when I was 15. Under a Blood Red Sky was out at the time and their early stuff is still what I listen to. Don't really like much after Unforgettable Fire, even Joshua Tree. With or without you is a beautiful song though. I haven't seen them live but really enjoy their live DVD's. Even the newer songs have a good energy live. The Edge shows great restraint and he's also a pretty good keyboard player and excellent singer. Not too shabby.
