First, let's look at some observations I've made

1- Mike has said he's a fan of Fryette amps and designs (read that on here I think)

2- I've seen some test videos of Fortin/Randall amps using Fryette 4x12 cabs

3- The Fortin Bones manual's template is "borrowed" from Fryette

4- My Fortin Bones sounds pretty dry... the Natas sounds even dryer than the Bones in clips I've heard

So how much do you think Mike has been influenced by Fryette in his designs? (not talking about Cali or other mods)

Considerably. The Natas clips I've heard sound pretty close to my Pitbull UL. Fryette make great amps.

Yes, I am a fan of the VHT stuff, as well as many other amps. I've used a UL and matching 4X12 fat bottom for gigging. It's been my main cab for years.
I recently got supplied some USA made Randall cabs so those are now my main cabs for all voicing....for obvious reasons.
I don't think they sound like the VHTs since the designs are so different from one another, but if others think so then I appreciate the compliment
Cheers,
Mike

Well if that is the case he has chosen a Great starting point.

Hope this isn't a knock because Mike is simply a genius.

From what I understand (could easily be wrong here) that is how its done, tweak, tweak, tweak.

The Fender Bassman was the original amp and Marshall was just a revision of that with tweaks here and there. Everything else was based from that.

I wish Namm would freaking pass already for christ sakes this topic makes my stomache hurt.

The late 90s into 2000s was my starting point...a guitarist in search of tone

Well, Mike is a good friend of mine but I'm also a HUGE fan of his work and Thanks to SteveVHT I am also very familiar with all of the VHT amplifiers. With that said, I'm not hearing any resemblance of the VHT line in any of his amplifiers and IMHO Mikes amps feel a lot better when you play them (not knocking VHT amps because I like them)

He might of learned a lot from using VHT's but that's where it ends IMHO. I'm sure Mike could tell you more.

Because I am friends with Mike ,I get to check out a lot of his work and that Boy has mad skills. (many already know this but I think it goes way beyond what people think) Mike has built me a lot of stuff that people don't know about yet and many of his designs are night and day different from each other. So much so that you would swear that it could not be the same guy building the stuff. In other words he is so on top of his craft that I personally believe that there is NOTHING that he can't do and as a person who has been a fan of amp modders since the early 80's, I don't say that to often.
OK, enough of the Fan boi stuff :D (but I am a fan, so there nanananana na nah   :emofag: :grim:  )

Since I've baited Mike in this thread, I might as well ask:

How many Bones were actually built?

The fewer there are, the more special I feel

I've owned and played both Fortin and VHT amps.....I used the Fortins.. :) Not a slam against VHT at all....2 different amps

Power amps?? VHT all the way..

Mike is that a Fender Prosonic head way up top?

It is an old black faced BandMaster that I rebuilt back in '96 when I worked at Sam Ash.
Got a great deal on that one. It was a customer repair that no one even picked up. Just had to pay the bench charge shop rate

Cheers,
Mike

The picture with all these amp is affecting me everytime I see it... Gear? what gear ??

Ask fortin about the new power amps he made with Randall!

Careful Mike.....that's entirely too many amps and guitars for Rig Talk......

I like that sanded down RG in the pick. I bet it sounds great.

Yup... you'll loose all your Rig-Talk Street-Cred points if you keep posting pics like that.

Cool collection btw.

Both have great note definition clarity and awsome mid range voicing ... They got the growlllll

I use the Fryette cabs in my demos because that is what I have as well as Marshall cabs. Mike's stuff sounds killer through front loaded cabs and rear loaded cabs. I can't say that goes for other manufacturers.

Great amps,. VHT are my favorite amps I've played them for years.... I personally do hear a resemblance, always have, LONG before this thread haha :D. The natas is eerily similar under a mic to my UL under a mic, and I stand by that. On the other hand, tons of amps do that. You can make a recto sound very 5150ish and vice versa as well. Fortin amps are absolutely killer, and would love to own one some day, can't wait to hear the Satan as well.

Except he is talented and has an ear for tone.
So he is allowed to own that many amps. REMEMBER? DUH!
