I just tried a block from killerguitarcomponents.com for my Floyd and I must say that it is AWESOME! More sustain, great tone change - I can actually feel the vibrations on my leg now! It made my Jackson JS32 really sing. I think I am going to leave the back plate off now too so I can show off the shiny top. Not sure how necessary the spring retainer plate is, but I got mine with one. It looks cool (shiny!) and it is worth the extra $10 to me just to know it is there and to show it off to my buddies. If you haven't yet - try one! They really do work.
Thanks for (re) proving my point. Bottom line, they WORK.
I'm told the spring retainer bars on the KGCs are optional and not mandatory, but the (on the 37 and 42mm versions, I can attest) FU blocks don't
need 'em. Period. I've yet to pop a spring on 2 Ti and 3 Brass FU blocks (even under heavy abuse), going on three years later.
I got a chuckle from this.. I'm on vacation the other day and get an email notification someone necro-bumped this Big Block thread I started here a while back (the resident failboat's troll posts got tedious eventually) ...and while I LMAO'd at the fact someone bumped it - and could go farther than to point out about it being bumped to pimp the
imitator rather than the
innovator (yeah....KGC now offers the - previously derided here by those "in the know" - brass spring claws, too- coincidence, you say?

)'s product - I'm actually stoked someone here actually finally took the time to try either company's offerings, as it seemed (despite the haters) the entire concept of big-blocks and hardware upgrades was being dismissed here. Which would be pretty lame at a site supposedly dedicated to tone-seekers, IMO. But
congrats to you on trying one, PaulyD99-glad you like it - and to the haters -
I TOLD YOU SO.
In other Big-Block news, after receiving more than just my request to do so, a parts manufacturer I've noticed people (besides myself, some of the cooler posters I know from other sites) use around here will excellent results recently collaborated with me to make
all of their future Floyd routes able to accommodate Big-Blocks with zero binding issues in their flush-mount OR recessed routs, and it
wasn't a KGC block they wanted make the CNC specs for to make sure fit properly. Just sayin'.
Basically I had already them to modify a rout on the body of theirs I'd recently purchased (not something they ordinarily do after the fact) - it fit, but didn't have the FULL range I want and am used to (from my old Warmoth body's roomy recess rout) - and another (other) forum bro (and FU user)in Europe had coincidentally bought a body from the same place and asked me (and the manufacturer) via email "would it fit". After a series of emails back and forth between all three parties, the manufacturer mentioned
he's receiving more requests than ours for Big-Block-ready Floyd routs - and that he WANTED to adapt his routs to fit them. My friend and I were like "let's make sure they do fit, now and forever", and the manufacturer agreed. My still unfinished (fortunately, or further CNC work would have been out of the question) and FU Big-Blocked Floyd sent back to the factory and were used as the templates for my buddies and the new standard Floyd routs. But from now on if you buy a body from this company (and hopefully soon another!) you will
never have to worry a Big-Block - a real FU one, at least...hahaha....won't fit. You're welcome.
And for the (pre-emptive STFU) record, I didn't do that to win points with Adam at FU (because I can think of one jackass here that will say I did), - though to be fair uh, might have... lol yeah he's stoked a manufacture wants to ensure HIS parts fit
their offerings going forward (like I did, and want ANYBODY I'm buying a body from to), I did it also because it was something my friend and I wanted our guitars to sound like, and have the
ability we wanted, and the parts-supplier wants to hook up their future discerning FU customers in advance. Mine and my bro's Strat bodies are now DIALED (his has probably cleared Customs already).
Everybody WIN.
But to reiterate the previous poster's point -
TRY ONE. Though..IMO there's a reason people like George Lynch, Warren Demartini, Brad Gillis, Slash, etc etc are using FU...TONE.
