So after years of amp whoring I've found what works and what doesn't (for me). And there are really only two amps left on my "Gotta Try It" list. But I figured it'd be interesting to see how your amp tastes have progressed over the years. Here's mine in chronological order (from what I can remember).

LINE 6 FLEXTONE II
My first amp. Had it for like 4 years.

DUAL RECTIFIER
Had it for about 4 months. Hated it.

BOGNER UBERSCHALL
Had it for about 2 years. Great amp. Wouldn't suit my style today. But definitely top notch.

BAD CAT HOT CAT
Had it for 3 or 4 years. Once I realized the sound I was after, I got rid of this thing real fast. Looking back, I absolutely despised this amp for so many reasons.

FRAMUS DRAGON
Ugh. Piece of shit. Good loop, though. But buzzy and fizzy and thin and made me want to kill myself.

DIEZEL VH4
Fuck yeah. Too much amp for what I need today. But hells yeah, great amp.

CERIATONE CHUPACABRA
This is where I realized what kind of sound I'm really after. And that I like single channel amps. For my needs/desires, this amp was better than all the others I had previously.

CAMERON CCV
Meh. Nothing to write home about. Chupacabra was much better. But the CCV was tighter and more saturated. Better loop, too. But the Chupa sounded better over all and was quieter. And built better...

DIEZEL EINSTEIN COMBO
Great combo amp for noodling around on and dragging to a practice session. Great clean channel. But again, no longer the sound I'm after.

PETERS HYDRA
Hells to the muthafuckin yeah. A keeper.

FORTIN BONES
Haven't had enough time with it yet. But probably not a keeper for me. Tonally, probably not my thing.

I'd say the Chupacabra, Hydra, and VH4 are the top three for me so far. And the two still left on my list to try are the VHT/Fryette Ultralead and the Soldano SLO.

I'll try...

Peavey Rage - nice little starter amp

Crate solid state combo

Marshall VS100

Line 6 axsys

Fender ToneMaster

Soldano Hot Rod 50

Peavey 5150

Peavey 5150 ii

Carvin legacy

Bogner xtc 101b

VHT pitbull ultra lead

Peavey jsx

Genz Benz El Diablo

Peavey jsx

Evh 5150 III - my favorite amp. Three fantastic usable channels. Clean could be better but I never really use clean anyway

I'll try and go in chronological order:

Fender Princeton Chorus: First real amp. Solid state. Long gone.

Soldano Atomic 16: single channel. Like a smoother JCM 800 with el84's. Still have it.

Carvin MTS: Decent 2 channel amp. Nothing special. Sold it.

Marshall JTM 30 combo: Sounded horrible with its 10" speakers. Would also overheat. Traded for an Eden bass cab.

Sovtek Mig 50: Sweet amp! Very loud. Sold it to a friend. Didn't need it when I got my Egnater Mod50.

Mesa Mark III: loved this amp for a few years. Got sick of the Mark sound. Too dry. Sold it to fund Axe Fx Ultra.

Marshall TSL 100: Sounded pretty good, but the foot switch sucked. Sold it to fund Egnater.

Mesa Rectoverb Combo: First Rectifier, sweet amp. Traded it for a PRS.

Egnater Mod 50: waited months to get it from Egnater. Great amp! Main amp for 6 years.

Mesa Mark IV: never truly loved it, way to dry. Filter cap leaked and I need to have it fixed.

Mesa Triple Rectifier: way to fizzy. Sold it.

Line 6 Flextone (original): great for backup. Bought from Doc Coyle, formerly of God Forbid.

Mesa Tremoverb: most versatile Rectifer. Great cleans. Sold after I got the Pre500 Rectifier.

Marshall Vintage Modern 2466: not for me. Traded for a JCM800 reissue.

Marshall JCM 800 reissue: great amp, but silly loud!

Mesa Dual Rectifier (rev C, #98): best Rectifier ever. Cleans suck, but who cares!

Fender Bandmaster (vintage blackface): Great amp for cleans!

Peavey 5150: awesome hi gain. Keep it for recording.

Marshall 1959 SLP Reissue (FJA modded): great amp, but a little harsh. Sold it to fund Friedman

Marshall JMP (Friedman KItchen Sink mod): Best amp I own!

Marshall JMP 50 watt: sweet amp. Less loud than 800 reissue.

Marshall JCM 800 (Cameron Aldrich mod): in the mail!

Peavey Backstage +. 1st amp.

Peavey 5150 combo - great amp. Cleans OK, gain great, leads too percussive. Had for 4 years.

Mesa Boogie Mark IV short head - love/hate for 5 years. Cleans OK, leads awesome. Too much compression for me.

'86 Marshall JCM800 - GREAT amp. Bought it used for $200. Stupid sell, but sold to buy a Boogie Mark IIC+.

Mesa Boogie Mark IIC+ - my only sale regret. Cleans great, gain/leads great. Sounded very EJish on leads. Sold for profit when they got hot.

'83 JCM800 - This was the 2205 version. Hated it, gain was not there at all. Sold it fast.

'88 JCM800 - also 2205. Awesome amp, sold to buy a Boogie Triaxis and a Boogie Heartbreaker. (See a pattern here?)

Boogie Heartbreaker - nice amp, but not my style. Really bought it because it was cheap.

Boogie Triaxis - My first preamp. Very cool. Had for about 2 years - sold.

Fender Prosonic. This is an underrated and great, great amp. Cheap and great tones for clean and dirty. Mid-gain kind of lacked, from what I recall. Sold.

Fender Vibroverb RI - you knew that was coming. Cool amp, very LOUD. Great cleans. Gain from the 2x10s sucked, but nice with 2x12s. Very cutting amp. Sold.

Splawn Pro Mod. Got this when they first came out. Very cool amp. Cleans were OK. The 2nd channel was 1984 to the T. Great amp, but had moved to apartment at the time. Sold.

Another Fender Prosonic. Sold it to get a Zinky Mofo.

Zinky Mofo - Cleans were eh. Gain was excellent - very SLO ish, very organic and open. Had for 1-2 years. Sold it due to "customer service" issues.

Egnater M4 Preamp. Now we're talking. Best preamp I have ever owned. Super versatile, great tones, recorded great, cut well with a band. Realized I really favored one sound over all the others. Sold it on a whim to fund my last/current amp.

Egnater Mod 50 - bought this to compare to the M4/Power amp rig. Sold due to noticing barely a discernible difference in punch and feel.

'69 Marshall 100w Super Lead/Plexi. Previously owned by EJ. Best amp I have ever owned, best amp sound. Best Cleans, Best OD. Greatest amp ever. The end.

Peavey Vypyr - practice amp.

I haven't owned near as much as you guys but I'll play along anyway. In chronological order,

Marshall Valvestate 20w s/s combo

Digitech Valve FX preamp + Marshall s/s power amp

Marshall JCM Slash halfstack

Bogner XTC 101B halfstack

Rivera Bonehead halfstack

CAE 3+SE preamp + VHT 2150 power amp

Marshall 6100 30th Anny head in blue tolex

Carvin Legacy halfstack

Marshall JCM200 DSL100

I couldn't afford to keep and buy so I had to sell something to get something else.

^ that's exactly how I feel - too many to count and I honestly don't even remember them all.

I was thinking I would play along until I was reading the earlier posts above and had at least 4 "oh yeah, I had one of those too" moments.

Yeah, might as well ask me what I had for lunch each day last year. Hell, I'd have trouble listing all the ones sitting in my man cave right now.

Fuck.

Here's my list of amps...some I had to buy 2 or three times to decide if I
like them. lol

My current amps are my keepers.

Mesa Triple Rectifier Reborn - this amp is my favorite of all the amps I've
owned, super loud and so much girth/balls

Fryette Ultra-Lead - love how tight this is and the graphic EQ makes this
amp awesome

Diezel Herbert MK 2 - a little too compressed but I love how it blends with
my other amps.

Marshall JVM 210H - great amp for the money. A little compressed though.

Also will be getting a Splawn Quick Rod B+ soon, so we'll see how it is. I
hated the QR when I first tried one years ago, but my tastes have changed
alot since those days. I really don't have much interest in anything else
these days other than maybe another EVH 5150 III 50W to keep at the in-laws
house (father in-law plays drums).

haha it was the food i had for lunch

First tube amp I had was a TRAYNOR combo heavy as hell 112 thin i bought it for like 200

I had 2 MARSHALL combo a 50watt 800 0r 900 and a 50 watt White anni (That one hurts ,it was one of the best Marshall I've heard)

I had a Randall RG 120 solidsate that I replaced Quickly when i got into a band with another guitarist using JCM800

I had a Rack with Marshall JMP1 ,Rocktron Intellifex and peavey classic 60/60 power amp used that for a long time

VHT 50 Cl ..very cool head ,super dynamic had a feel that i have not encountered on any other amps ,it was like you were directly connected to the speakers ,its was weird like you could feel the sound going through the cables really unique

Then back to a JMP1 and the matching Dual mono bloc 400 kg power amp .lol

Yamaha/T100 modded to Soldano specs choke etc ---This one i really liked a lot ,it could get a little buzzy at low volume but killed live .it took a while to hunt this down .I remember seeing a total guitar video with Bill Leverty of Firehouse and i loved their sound on the first 2 records.

The T100 led me to seek out the Soldano Hr100 ..loved the drive .hated cleans and this amp was loud as hell ,unusable in most situations ,band broke up so i sold it ,I love the Soldano Od sound though.
The funny thing is the modded Yamaha had a way better clean channel and the drive channel was pretty much on par

Rocktron / Egnater Vendetta 2 cool channels clean lead the other 2 blew

Rivera Knucklhead 50 watts --meh Liked the marshals better

Baron M60 ---Great amp ,Sustain for days great options
Baron B60--- A little more British ,I like It but i think I liked the M60 better in hindsight

Elmwood M90 with Kt88s nice amp .I dug it .would have kept had my car not blown up

Rhodes Gemini On order -Pretty excited on this one ,i had tried a locals Collossus head a while back and the cleans and overdrive just floored me. I love all the programmable features and the tone kills
and they look incredible Kyle is also a great guy

Peavy Combo...first amp ever
Crate Combo...with all the built-in effects, including a god-awful chorus
Peavey Trans Tube Head...full stack, before I knew anything about tubes
Line6 Vetta II 212...too much work
Peavey 6505 212...killer metal sound, but needed cleans
Rivera Clubster 45 112...awesome little amp, sounded great re-routed into a 212 cab
Rivera Knucklehead 55...continuing my love for Riveras
THD Univalve...needed a quick backup amp, fit that need but nothing else
Marshall 1987x...planned to get it modded, never went through with it, sold it without ever really playing it
Carvin Legacy...great versatile amp for dirt cheap
Carvin X100b...great versatile amp for dirt cheap
ADA MP-1 & Mesa 2:90...the rack years, one of my favorite setups before delving into "boutiques"
Rivera Fandango 212...continuing my love for Riveras
Splawn Quickrod...my second favorite amp, couldn't afford to keep more than one amp and was playing really heavy stuff at the time
Framus Cobra...great for the heavy stuff I was playing at the time, wished I kept the QR instead
Diezel Herbert...favorite amp and still in the stable

Some impressive resumes you have there guys.

I'll keep my list short... because that's how it is:
  • Pop's home brew practice amp - my father attached a switching PSU to a small home made Class D amp to a crappy 6" Radio Shack speaker to take to lessons easily, it did the job
  • Peavey Bandit 112 - my first real amp, hated it
  • Peavey Classic 30 combo - first tube amp, still have it to this day!
  • Sansamp GT-2 - not an amp but worth mentioning because I'd plug this pedal into any stereo for make-shift jamming and practice
    ...many years in between...
  • Dr. Z EZG-50 2x10 combo - great clean amp but that's all it does, I realized here after a short while that pedals aren't for me
  • Rhodes Colossus - nuff said!

My guitar list is actually longer FWIW.

Overall, I'm a modded Marshall guy. My favorites were the bray and the Cameron.going to sell off most of what I have now and get down to like 2 or 3 heads and a combo and be done with buying. My next amp may be the germino lv55 with rectifier and master volume options or the bray 4550. Also would like a Cameron atomica if they ever build them again or if a used one pops up.
