Even if they weren't there was no way they were going to save Eastern Europe from The Soviets dude. And at the time, the US at least, was not completely aware of whether or not they were our enemies.
Did you know that the US escalated the nuke game when the soviets had one single solitary missile capable of hitting the US and no evidence that the Soviets were interested in such a thing. So imo American means nothing... neither does Australian. They are melting pots. It's your race and culture that really matters. Most of that came from Europe in my case and specifically Britain ultimately.
