The part that’s not “just some dude wandering around his yard” is the actual data showing the average conservative has a larger amygdala than the average liberal. As someone working on a PhD in religion and political theory, and with a BA in neuroscience, this kind of bio-political reflection strikes me as too close to the origins of race “science” in the 19th century…
But hey, show me the scans and I’m interested. I do think there is something about evolutionary history and biology that makes resentment and projected nostalgia (whether or not a particular nostalgic object or idea or time ever “actually” occurred in the past) particularly powerful. But this video doesn’t have the science I want

The average size of the human amygdala is about 1.3 cm cubed. Very small. A sesame seed's worth of volume is significant.

I can't remember if the dude in the video referenced a particular study and I'm not going to watch the video again. I'm assuming his talking points are based on Kanai et al since that's what lines up the most. There is an issue with that study. It uses a very small and low political diverse sample size. Therefore the conclusions of that study are weak at best.

I urge you to read this study which builds on Kanai et al by using a larger and more politically diverse sample size. They actually sampled Dutch since their political structure covers a broader spectrum.
