That sounded absolutely killer. I love how it still clanked like a great plexi/superlead on the muted picking between the fretted notes at the solo. It really gives the soft response of the Badger a real pissed off backbone, grind and grunt.

I really need to stop looking at these vids, I bought a Airis savage drive the last time this happened!!!!!

I've only tried it with my MC2 and my mk2 MTL, which are already super tight (probably why I like the Koko with them). It tightens a little, but it's more subtle on those amps. My only other amps are Fryettes which are equally as tight. I'd like to see what it does to a recto. I'm using with the volume between noon and 3:00, gain below 9:00 and bright about 1:00. It definitely adds a bit more grit/grind and saturation to the MC2. I think I like it better through that amp compared to the MTL.
I was thinking a koko would be perfect boost for MTL2. You still feel this way. I don’t want to lose any low end

Yes. Still my favorite. The original 2 button Koko… not the reloaded. I like the KSR Eros a lot too. Those are the two I primarily use. Just got a Peper’s Dirty Tree last week. I’m liking it as well but the jury is still out on it.

Agreed. It depends so much on one’s amp, pickup’s, settings, tolerance for noise, etc. I’ve been through almost 130 of them and have 5 pedals staying for now and 3 rack pq’s, but for metal and hard rock the only 2 of 5 pedals I’d use would be my Klon and Thorpy Heavy Water. I have about 5 more to check out on my radar now including the Wizard Leopard and KSR Eros

In every other category of gear (except tubes) I’ve baiscally tried it all and even the few ones left, I at least already know about them (like Larry), while with pedals there are just so many out there that I always find myself adding a bunch to my radar periodically that I somehow never heard of before. Luckily they’re relatively easy to sell since the vast majority of them aren’t very good imo

I feel I can tell when a pedal is good now, after trying so many, even if the amp is a terrible fit for it, but I always start with my boogie iic+ as the boost platform because I have yet to try any boost that doesn’t sound good with it

100% agree. The boost/dirt pedal thing is super dependent on the rest of your rig. If I found a leopard for a decent price I'd give it a shot.

I DO want to let you know I've been getting very good results with the Eros. I picked one up for a stupid price and it is extremely versatile and surprised me, because I don't like Kyle's amps ? he's a really nice dude, don't get me wrong but they aren't my thing.

The Eros though, has a full bmt tone stack and you can switch between a clean boost, TS type, and a higher dirt setting, and at low gain levels is one of the few overdrives that don't make the Larry sound worse than without it.

Haha I posted that over a year ago now and have already been through those 2 pedals (plus many more) and sold them a while ago. Have now just 3 or 4 boost pedals I’m keeping plus 3 vintage rack PQ’s and actually for the first time in a while no other boost pedals on my radar for almost half a year now, but I’m sure I’ll find something eventually that’ll pique my curiosity

The Leopard and KSR had some good things going them, but I’m spoiled by what I’ve got: original Klon centaur (silver no horse), Protone Dino Cazares, Coppersound Broadway (2 different versions) and Thorpy Heavy Water (might sell it). For rack PQ’s I’ve kept my Intersound IVP, PRV-1 and Audioarts 4100. Sold the Furman PQ-3 and TC1140. I’m sure if you or others did the same AB comparisons you’d agree that the Leopard and Eros were rendered obsolete (I’m VERY careful about what I let go of. That’s why I have so much stuff lol)

For boosts the Klon is still what I use at least 95% of the time. The Protone Dino has been the best I’ve tried for very tight or more modern tones, although it still honestly will sound like a toy next to the Klon, but if you like the Eros the Dino might also be worth trying. I like it more than the Standout, Fortin’s, Precision Drive, Dire Wolf and others like that. I’m still waiting for my Larry, so no idea how it’ll be with boosts. Plenty of my amps I don’t like boosts with. Mostly just use them with my Marshall’s, Boogie’s, Naylor, sometimes SLO and the ‘60’s Gretsch I’m borrowing (killer amp). I agree about Kyle’s amps. Wasn’t keeper worthy

The Larry doesn't really need boosts ?

It's just interesting which make it sound worse and which work as intended with it

Thanks man . Sounds like I’ll get one . So far Klon copy’s are my favorite boost with MTL2. But I been wanting a koko and saw your comment so it sealed the deal . What’s up with the lepoard boost though ?

I liked the Leopard, but just felt my Klon outdid it, so I sold it. FWIW, I don’t like my Klon much with my MTL, but mine is a 2016 MTL 100 watt MK1 and a real Klon centaur (silver no horse), so maybe those variables make a difference. The Koko wasn’t a keeper for me either, but wasn’t bad

MTL2 is almost perfect and love what a boost can do it but without changing low end of MTL2

That’s why I don’t really like boosts with my MTL. Changes too much the low end and qualities that make the amp special (like it’s openness and rock solid punch). I think probably the Timmy V1 and Landgraff Mo-D were the best boosts I had in keeping in tact what I liked about it, but still sold those pedals and just prefer it unboosted. If I want a more saturated sound, I prefer to just use a different amp. Not trying to make the MTL into something it’s not

I just been layering a Diezel Herbert underneath my MTL2. It works well

You ever use an Eq pedal with it ?

I have '16 MTL mk 1 and had a '20 MTL mk 2. I actually sold the mk2 as I liked the voicing better on the mk1. I did like the mid-sweep on the mk2, but for me it was a set and forget type knob. My '19 KT88 MTL was voiced more like the '20 mk2 as well, but a bigger/tighter bottom end and more punch.

I liked the leopard, just not as much as the Koko and Eros I had at the time (still have those 2). I felt the Leopard worked best on the MC2. It has a ton of gain and added a little more compression than I liked.

Haha too funny as I was just having this convo w mhenson42 ?

Ive got an original Koko Boost that I just started using in the front end of my MC25 and it’s good so far. Really like it into the rhythm side as it makes it nearly like the lead side....I want to try a Leopard though. That said anybody wants to sell one let me know ?

I‘ll add that my reasons for using a boost were first trying to get a bit more volume for solos stuff in our band but my approach was wrong in using it up front vs in the loop for that. I ended up with a screaming deal on an MXR Micro Amp plus that’s in the loop and works killer for that, I haven’t tried it up front yet but it doesn’t seem to be a big character changer. Another one people rave about is the CAL MK4.23
