Jake's comment about not enough doom love on this forum was right! Threads like this seem fairly popular on other forums, so here's a thread for all things doom/stoner/sludge/noise/psychadelic rock and metal for RT.

I'm sure everyones heard the gods of the genre (Sleep, Electric Wizard, and of course Black Sabbath and so on and so forth). But here's some other stuff thats been in heavy rotation lately

This is my rig o' doom

I'd take a pic of my current one if I could ever find the memory card for my camera...

I'm more into sludge than straight up doom, but whatever.

I tried calling out the YOB fans when I first got on here!

They were just playing Shrinebuilder on our local college radio station this morning. You should check out the interview there.

He chats with the Guitarist (Scott Kelly for Neurosis) and the drummer (Dale Crover from The Melvins) for the first hour and plays their album.

It did sound huge. Huge and warm. I could dial that thing up to volumes that would level buildings while still standing right in front of it and not get my ears rung once. Probably the best sounding amp I've ever played in my life... too bad I couldn't get it to work for my own personal sound. I need something that was sludgy, yet with a more percussive response, so I eventually gravitated back to a Dual Rectifier.

I now alternate between a Recto and a Mark V, depending on how I feel.

Oh nice, I've totally seen those vids before. good stuff. I used to run a Mark V, but I found that I preferred the Orange voicing more for what I was doing. The Sunn was just a lucky find on top of things. On the Mark though, I thought that Mark I mode sounded good for that sorta sound. That and the clean channel took fuzz great

I ran through a bunch of modern Oranges and my favourite was the AD30. Only problem was that I had to run it full out to keep up with my drummer and I didn't like how broken up it got when run like that. I switched to an AD140 but it wasn't the same vibe. Too much headroom and not enough gain... plus it didn't take pedals very well so boosting it for more didn't work out.

I wanted an old OD120 but suddenly found myself with a fist full of dollars and bought the Electric instead. Killer amp with an old school fat bottom end.

I'd love to have an OD120 some day but it's not really a priority right now.

That is one thing I've noticed about my Thunderverb. It HATES drive and fuzz pedals of any sort (that I have tried at least).

The fucking masters.

These guys, too. This album kills.

I've been digging the HELL outta these guys. Bunch of young fellas bringing the DOOOM! \m/ (holy vocals!)

I used to have an OR120 from 1976, It was modded to have a standby switch, master volume, and they took it out of it's pretty orange shell and drilled holes on the faceplate to make it a rackmounted unit. I got it for a steal for my first guitar amp. It sounded mean. Selling that thing was one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I wish I still had that amp. Those newer AD series amps just don't sound the same as the ORs did!

Lots of dooom going on in here! Every time we have a doom thread it makes me want to buy at least three more fuzz pedals. One can never have enough fuzz. I have a non-working Muff build in my drawer that I could probably see if I can fix one of these days. If I get it working it'll be the best sounding fuzz ever created, I know it  I'll probably end up buying another though, just to have.

What's your favorite fuzz for doom? Has anyone else come to the realization that the new Muffs are pretty meh in stock form? I didn't like mine, but they're pretty easy to modify and sound great when you do.

I know it doesn't come under straight up doom, but I'm a huge fan of bands like ISIS, Cult Of Luna, etc etc. Pelican are great too.

Also, again, may not be your thing guys but this is such an awesome track!

A Tonebender. The ones with a tone knob can be dialled in to be more mid heavy and not as stereotypically doomy as a Muff style fuzz. They can get pretty aggressive in that you can actually palm mute with them. The draw back is they can sound really shitty with certain amps... same thing goes for my next preference...

A Fuzz Face. They sound fuckin' monstrous through the right amplifier. I've owned a number of them (some high dollar) and my personal favourite is the blue Dunlop Hendrix fuzz. Maybe I lucked out and got a good one? Donno.

Next up are fuzzy dirt pedals (Rat, Distortion+, etc).

Although popular I avoid the Boss FZ-2. It's instant Electric Wizard in a box, which is why I avoid it like the plague. (I love Electric Wizard, however I try to avoid cliché sounds)

Last is a Big Muff. I hate Big Muffs. I really wanted to like them and thus I've owned many, from 70s originals to Russian to the NYC re-issue to the current small box version... and I never managed to find one I like.

I've been digging my Devi Ever Hypericon for fuzz. Devi Ever makes some good, cheap fuzzes. I also have a Zvex Mastotron that I've been using on my bass. It does a splatty Bongzilla bass sounding fuzz really well, and can get really meaty. I also did a review of the Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz. I really like that yellow fucker too.

I love this band:

The breakdown in the middle of that song rules. So heavy live!
