1. Peters Hydra
2. Peters FSM
3. Peters Chimera
4. Engl SE el34
5. Diesel Herbert

In order. The Hydra is my favorite amp ever owned from a list of close to 100 tube amps.

I wanted to outdo you and name all five of mine as Peters amps, but I think it would've seemed fanboyish. So, I'll just hint at doing it instead. Although, your list is out of order compared to mine. FSM, Gryphon, and Vega are at the top for me. Oh, wait. I forgot. You don't have any of those. :poke:

Sorry. I just had to rub it in. Be jealous.

You know bro, I think our fanboyizm is warranted. James makes a top shelf amplifier that can hang(if not outright smoke) the very best.

Don't you dare sell the one we were discussing! :gethim:   I'm just waiting until you tell me I need to provide cash. Lol.

..........and I am jealous. ;)

Seems Splawn Quick Rod, Diezel VH4, and Mesa MK IIC + are getting mad mention.
I'm also glad to see the Mako brand mentioned in here a couple times. Seriously, that Mak4 is hands down a pimp pre.

Peace,
Mojo

I'll add to the Peters' fanboy club.
The Peters Polaris combo that James made for me around seven years ago is still my favorite amp to just plug in to without any pedals and just goof around and rip on for hours.
It has that perfect old modded Marshall rock tone/feel at any volume. It does a pretty good 'brown sound' but it'll do almost anything with the right guitar.

1 Bogner 20th Ecstasy
2 Cameron CCV
3 Friedman Brown Eye
4 Bogner Twin Jet
5 Soldano SLO

JCM800 2204
Old Marshall Master Lead combo (forgot exact model)
Morris Perplex'd
Fender Bassman head
VHT 50/CL

Honorable mention:
EVH 50 watt
Engl Blackmore

Early white-chassis 101B. (I liked more than all the other later versions)
VH4
Mark IVB
'52 Tweed Bassman
Savage Blitz 50 (el34s, 50watt)

runners up:

'79 Deluxe Reverb
modded Dual Rectifier
Electra-Dyne
Bogner Shiva (el34 original version)
Engl Invader
EVH 5150 III
vintage AC-30

1. Friedman Marsha
2. 79 Friedman modded JMP
3. Mesa Mark IV
4. Bogner XTC
5. 5150

My favorite amp can achieve the 5 best amp tones I've heard with its various channels/modes :

Larry Dino 939

1) California Clean - is it possible to out sparkle the sweetest Fender ? Yes !
2) California Crunch - a SRV inspired blues channel so convincing it'll turn anyone into a Texan republican
3) British Crunch - Wear your LP low Page style or SG high like Angus and experience crunch so rude you'll want to kick the Queen in the face. You won't need Prince Charles's Dumbo ears to hear how awesome this tone is
4) British HotRod - Yes, this channel can do high gain tones other than the famous galloping Iced Earth rhythm crunch ! Just dial it in different, easy !
5) Scream - Screaming, sustaining gain soaked heaviness thats fatter than the average American's waistline ! Always tight enough for fast intricate rhythms at the same time !

I understand it's $7-8.5k new. $5k would be a solid price.

In no order

Randall RG80
Scotts Fortin SLP Cali Mod
Marshall Fortin modded JVM210
Mesa 22 cal combo
Mesa MkIII coliseum

1. my Cameron mod 800 2203 RI

1960 Fender Concert brownface 4x10 - clean amp with character, can get old ZZ Top tones easily
1972 Marshall 100 watt Super Lead - the godfather of overdrive tone
Bogner XTC 101B - A good player could gig with the blue channel alone
Mesa Coliseum Mk III - 180watt, three channels. modded with the 'R2' mod. killer killer amp.

ah. Now that I did not understand. haha thanks!
Hey, don't let me talk you out of it. But even for guys who are used to $3500 for a Diezel or $4000 for a Les Paul, doubling up is a lot of coin. I guess the best way to look at it is how cheap guitar stuff usually costs compared to concert level orchestra instruments. A pro level cello is a $15k and up investment.
