So i tried the Hempcone X GK100 combo and im not sure i totally like it.

Im looking "tonewise" for something that has a very tight low end and accentuates the low/midrange frequencies that is very warm and has only a little bit of high end.
It seems like the speakers im now using are a bit bright for my taste.. Kinda hard to describe really..
I may be considering the cl'80s

Im really looking for opinions from people who have had experience with SEVERAL speakers in the past.

Sorry that the tone quest keeps continuing..haha

I may get blasted for this but...

What about a Freyette Deliverance cab with the P50Es? IMHO this was an awesome cab. I also think the Splawn cabs with the Splawn SBs are very good sounding cabs.

I know it doesn't mean shit until you hear it for yourself, but the more I think about it, CL80's and H30's sound like they'd be a killer mix in a 412.

They Are... This is what Mark Cameron Recomends... I favor a darker sound.... HEAVY w/ DOOM PLEASE :D

So I love 4 LEAD 80's

Hmmm.. I keep hearing a lot of good stuff about the cl'80's. I think i may have to give them a try. I have 1 in my 1X12 and LOVE it! But at high volumes it may have seemed kinda bright...? maybe not. Alot of people say that they are ideal for 1X12's and 2X12's for some reason, but not 4X12's.. idk why though.?
And btw...Roidrage... i heard your clip in your one post not long ago and i thought your tone was very warm.. Sounded very much like something id be interested in.
I want it to sound MASSIVE out of my diezel RL cab~

If you're talking to me, then no I haven't unfortunately. I'm in the same boat as you. I really want to try an Ubercab with 80's/H30's
I also LOVE the Mesa Traditional (Stiletto) cab with 4 V30's. Super punchy and well balanced and for some reason the v30's never sound harsh to me in this cab.

WHAT??

Did you say LOW END? There are 4 CL80's in that MILLS CAB... Which I handwired with Heavy Gauge, and Eliminated the Clips, and HARD SOLDERED.

That HERBERT has 6 Winged C 6550's A Channel 2- GAIN MOD, AND MY Secret weapon Pre Amp Tubes that have more Low End Punch.

YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT BOTTOM IS TILL YOU HEAR THIS.... IT'S REDICULOUS! :D

It Actually DAMAGES YOU!

Ohh EDIT... And no No Spike... I'M GETTING TIRED OF TELLING EVERYONE - SMOOTH AND WARM. I hate Harsh and Bright that's why these are my speakers..

From your description, sounds like an Eminence Swamp Thang. Lot's of low/low mid, not much top. I've only heard clips, but maybe check out the clips on the Emi site.

ALRIGHT dude... Ima try it.. :gethim:
I have a feeling that me and you are on the same page though so here we go again... more speaker swapping action goin on.

Ima order me some cl80's and hope this works out. Fingers crossed.

oh..also, is you cabinet front loaded or rear loaded?

My latest from Mills was a 412 Straight with 2-CL80's and 2-V30's crossed and a 212 with EV Black Labels. Want to talk bottom? Sheeeeeit......its a bottomless pit.

I have another Mills 412 on order. This will have 4-Heritage 30's (55Hz) in it.

Have also tried:

Of course all V30's (great for Mesa's and the like)
Greenbacks (not bad but not much bottom)
K-100's in a front loaded Diezel (sounds like ass)
Scumback M75's (sound great but not too much emphasis on bottom)
Bogner Uberkab rear loaded with 2V30's and 2T75's (best cab mass produced and if it handles an Uber, it will handle anything)

Steve

They're pricey but Scumback M75's. They make them in 25, 65, or 100 watts. They sound somewhat like broken in old Greenbacks and I've tried all the popular celestions and i always go back to Greenbacks. CL80's, V30, H30, all have their place but Greenbacks do it for me.

Consider celestion 65 watters. They're a dark speaker but i like them. And the cheaper Warehouse versions sound pretty good.

But after i loaded a 2x12 up with 2 Scumback M75 25 watters, I'm considering getting 2 more and never using celestions again.

lol..i know right.. I dont get all the hype about them..

Anyways.. Ive also heard good stuff about MC90's being warmer than CL80's i think..? Is this accurate?

Im not really a fan of greenbacks. I LOVE them for tight heavy rythym stuff though! thats why i like the Hempcones. But for leads i want something thats smooth and almost dark.
Im also curious about these H30's,,
I may try to mix 2 cl80s with the hempcones and see how that sounds too... who knows.

For what you are after, I don't think Hempcones will work either. You said you want dark and a lot of bottom. Dark to me equates to something without a lot of head room. Bottom will be from a speaker that can handle the frequencies and a cabinet that is built for it. If you can get hold of of the G12H30 Heritage models (55 HZ), and drop them in your Mills cab, you might be happy. You can try a mix, but some speakers just don't mix well in the same cab due to frequency curves and impedance mismatches. Sound still goes toward the path of least resistance, that being the probably the wrong speaker. For me it has been trial and error, and it is still ongoing! I usually use one of my Mesa Recto cabs as a test dummy for speaker swaps and combinations, then if I find something I like, I put them in a good cab. Warehouse Speakers is a good place to get reasonably priced Celestion clones at about half the price and still made in America, not China.
