I may get blasted for this but...

What about a Freyette Deliverance cab with the P50Es? IMHO this was an awesome cab. I also think the Splawn cabs with the Splawn SBs are very good sounding cabs.

I can not make a recommendation, but P50Es would not be a good choice for what Rob Tahan is looking for. P50Es (in my experience) are very very tight, stiff if you will, but have more focus on upper mids with a good amount of brightness to them.

Im looking "tonewise" for something that has a very tight low end and accentuates the low/midrange frequencies that is very warm and has only a little bit of high end.
I may be considering the cl'80s

Eminence Tonkers seem to have what youre describing. Tight lows, warm lower-mids. The highs roll off smoothly, but long, so the detail is still there, but not bright & brittle. Theyre not aggressive.

Really depends on your style, amp & ear. But it could be something to check into.

Just to chime in on the CL80s, I've been using their predecessor, the Rola G12-80s in my Mills cab and I couldn't be happier. They've stopped my speaker GAS (for now ). I was using C90s before that and still do at times, but the G12-80s seem warmer to me and have become my go to speaker. The CL80/C90/G12-80s all sound pretty similar to each other (I've A/B'd a handful of them together), so if you're looking for a full sounding, responsive speaker without any harshness, grab whichever one of these speakers that you can.

Also after research ive narrowed it down to either: CL80's G1280's or MC90's... I guess the question is which one is the darkest, warmest, least upper mid heavy of them all?

Im also interested in these Rola speakers...? I cant seem to find them though...

IMO, warmest would be the G12-80s, then C90s, then CL80s. I don't really notice my C90s or G12-80s being brighter or darker than their counterpart, so I'd say they're about the same in that category. Other than the G12-80s being warmer and having just a bit more character (20 additional years of break in, probably), when I've heard C90s and G12-80s mixed in a 4x12, they're very hard to tell apart if you don't know which is which.

As far as finding G12-80s, good luck. They were only made for a few years in the early 80s. I found mine in an early 80s Marshall 1982a cab. They do pop up on ebay occasionally. If they do, you can usually get them pretty cheap, in the $75 a speaker range shipped. I'd also say, if you can find the G12-80s with 444 cones rather than 1777, it's worth it.

But since you have a HERBERT and have tried them, im taking your word.

These are all dark as hell.

Electro Voice Force 12 (only available used, and it 8 ohms)
Eminence Delta Pro 12A (weighs a ton, only available in 8 ohms)
Eminence Swamp Thang
WGS BL-80 (darker than the Celestion CL80, IMO. This is my goto for taming a REALLY bright amp/cab/room.)

That's it. Imported parts and assembled in USA. Kinda like importing a Hyundai, installing the seats, and saying it's made in America.

I remember back in the Kramer days we used to take all the Made in Korea stickers off the guitars and replace them with stuff that said, "Kramer, Proud To Be An American Company". Very misleading to the unsuspecting customer since it doesn't claim to be made in America but it's lends one to think that way.

Between the CL80's and MC90's. the MC90's are darker and warmer. With some amps the MC90's can be too thick and a bit muddy. The MC90's have more character than the CL80's. Both are great speakers....

In person its not muddy, but a little smoooth for MY taste with the 6505+ (keep in mind EQ was the same in the clip). So I mix v30's/tonkers on a 4x12 & its actually VERY good. EAch makes up for the deficiencies of the other.

Tried them with the Ultra+ & they sounded perfect, but thats a more strident sounding amp.

I usually keep my treble at 9 oclock and same for the prescence. Im a fan of lower mids and a smooth compressed tight sound.

Go with the MC90's, they are smoother and warmer to my ears. I haven't tried them with a Herbert though....
