250k volume pot with a .47pf cap on it. It's the best answer. Keep the pickups you have and keep your $$$ in your pocket.

I never thought about this, but that's a great idea. I had a PAF Pro in a guitar once that was a little too bright and I just changed out the volume pot to a 250k and it helped a lot. More than I expected. It was really nice. I might have to try a 1k ohm pot on a guitar that's a little dark to see how it responds too. Much cheaper than getting new pickups for sure..
Great idea man!

@marshallmel, humbuckers and 250k / or 300k pot/ solution is discussed a lot here and there, but please share your thoughts and experience with this. Also / if I understand it correct / putting a .47pf cap on it is very important to save the guitar high end /treble response /, right? Thanks.

I do that to most of my Stratocasters. I usually use a Seymour Duncan Hotrail in the bridge. You can fiddle around with the value on the cap to get what you want. I always get questions about my Strats when other guitar players hear or play mine.

That's other conclusion I read somewhere - some humbuckers / JB for example / do love 250k pot, some not...

The 250k pot would also give it lower output than a higher value pot right?

I recently put Dimarzio D Activator-X pickups in a bright guitar. Works really well. They are very full/thick pickups. And I'm using a 500k pot and .22 cap with them.

I didn't' notice any output drop on my pickup but it did take off the high end brittle sound on the PAF pro in the bridge of a strat I think it was where I used the 250k pot value. Now I just use one bridge pickup most of the time in my guitars.. even taking the other one out because I think it adds to the sustain..
