Well, Gibson doesn't really have the capital to spend on trying to stop this atm, so it's going to be a free for all.

Just floored by this.

How much $$ does it take to alert eBay that a seller is selling fakes? Won't eBay do anything about it?

eBay doesn’t care as long as you can’t see the fake Gibson logo. They’re making money and should be held accountable for selling counterfeit goods.

that's what I was thinking. They've been on ebay for quite a while now. They just obscure the Gibson/Fender logos, or, flat out photoshop them off for the pics.

Gibson doesn't take it lightly, though. and (I've read) they will flat out impound/destroy your order at customs if they suspect it's a counterfeit.

I heard a story about a guy buying a real Rolex in Hong Kong and got caught not declaring it upon reentry to the US. When Customs called him on it, he claimed it was a cheapo fake and cost well below the duty free exemption. So they took it and smashed it with a hammer right there.

Another little known fact. Chinese mail order brides are a scam. The one i ordered was dead when i opened the crate.

I have bought several fake Zakk Wylde copies off ebay dirt cheap. Planned to use them as french door handles(a la the hard rock). Paid less than $200 each. But the seller wasnt trying to pawn them off as real.

That's a feature, not a defect.

I thought this has been pretty much going on forever. I've always just filtered out anything from China or outside NA or outside the US.

+1, I can never not remember a time when this wasn't a thing on eBay...

Fucking UPS... Make sure you use Fedex, they really pack their crates nicely with ample air, food and water.

There are actual laws on the books to allow single item importation of counterfeit goods if it is going to be used for personal use. The law is really designed for travelers who may unknowingly buy something they really didn't know as fake while preventing people from bringing bulk items for profit.

4.1 Customs officers shall permit the arriving person to retain one article of each type accompanying the person. For example, an arriving person who has three purses, whether each bears a different unauthorized trademark or whether all three bear the same unauthorized trademark, is permitted one purse.

4.2 Imported items over and above one article are subject to disposition under either 19 CFR § 133.21 (counterfeit) or 19 CFR § 133.24 (gray market and confusingly similar). Under 19 CFR § 133.21, counterfeit items, in the absence of permission from the trademark owner, must be seized and forfeited. Gray market or confusingly similar

I think for importation via shipment, may be using the same guidelines but couldn't find it.

But they have money going after the Funko Pop company for their Slash doll? http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/gibson ... s-figures/

much easier and cheaper target than going after China's massive corporate theft machine.
Well, it's easy for them to copy stuff since many companies send the blueprints to them to manufacture for them. It's like we do all of the R&D for them and hand it right over. Doesn't make it right to use the logo, but many companies shouldn't be shock by the technical copying

it doesn't help that other countries are forced to share R&D with Chinese companies if they want to manufacture there.

This is the video that I saw ages ago about an order seizure:

So it looks like it can still get snagged when you have it shipped in. Makes sense that they have an exception for bringing it back into the US with you, though. Thanks for that info. Good to know.

Thats an interesting vid.. They confiscated it due to it being a forgery, but if you give them enough money, they will sell it (back) to you. Did I hear what he said wrong?
Just seems like another example of how screwed up things are. Its all about principal.. Until its all about money
Not a jab at you at all, just an observation, thanks for putting that up
