This quote is why SOME owners get others all pissed off,

The POD is consumer level gear for the masses. The Axe-FX is boutique level quality build and development made for professional musicians and those that care about their tone on that level.

This is from "another forum" and this makes no sense whatsoever, the POD is sitting in 100s of studios right now and has been played by some of the best players in the land. The Guitar Player that Ed was just in had several interviews with respected guitarists that make their living playing, professional, and both used PODs on their last albums. The guy that wrote this is a nobody in the music world, who this asshat thinks he is kills me.

1. I do not find one person like this on this forum, IMO the most level headed discussions in regards to the axe-fx are on this forum.

2. No I do not think the POD is in the same ballpark as the axe-fx but it is still a very good tool that can be had at a very good price.

Rant over.

I agree with you. I just picked up a podxt pro and loaded in some old patches I saved. It really doesn't sound bad at all and would serve me just fine for gigs.

That said, anyone want to buy my Ultra?

I pretty much agree. A lot of idiots talk up their own gear to feel better about themselves.

I do smell the douchebaggery taint of TGP on the comment you pasted.

I think POD's are just fine. Heck, I really like the HD147.

I just like the Axe A LOT more.

Since I own an Axe, I guess I should work on my Axe Fx snobbery :D

You will get certain people saying crap like that with any piece of gear and you will often notice that there are certain individuals who are the type of a**holes who say crap like that..regardless. It's like it's in there DNA lol :D

You beat me to it, this is exactly what I was going to say. I have seen these comments made about the Axe Fx by guys that are talking about their tube amps and the Axe is a toy. Hummm to them if the Axe is a toy wonder what that makes the Line 6 POD stuff?

To be honest with you, all of the praise for the AxeFX turns me off to it. I've been "tricked" by this hype/praise before, only to get something I didn't really dig in the long run.

With that said, I'm positive I'll own one someday, but probably not real soon. (hey, I said "probably")

Yeah, it's funny how visiting HCAF has me looking on MF for more amps...or the drum forum has me looking at drum stuff...

Then I think - fuck, I don't play the shit I got now, and the JVM does all that I want to do, and I already have 3 kits, one of which I'm selling...

Like just now, I thought "Hey, I could get a 5150-II" - WHY??? - probably because I just watched that Acapella version of Thriller, and I know Eddie does the leads in the original, and I don't like the standard 5150...

<sigh>

I am trying to think what you have not owned so yeah I see you owning one at some point :D

Yep. It's regular gear snobbery which is just further multiplied by the digital vs. tubes stuff multiplied by the pod/axe price and perceived value discrepancy.

The Axe-Fx is like the Perfect Storm of forum douchebaggery.

HA HA! GREAT POINT! The only thing it's missing is if it was made in China.

lol...if Cliff moves production to China it will break the Internets for sure.

I can totally see where you guys are coming from. Cork sniffers in general, can be a pain in the ass.

But honestly, I think the quote is fine. Everyone gets so caught up in the CODE on the box, that they forget that there is ANALOG AUDIO attached at both ends.

PODs are made cheaply. I've used one (in some flavor) since they were released. And lots of cats had made some great music with them.

The Axe-Fx claims premium quality, military-spec components. Designed by a guy who has a pretty impressive rap-sheet for electronics and audio. I truly think that this is at least HALF the battle. How many guys put nice pre-amps or line drivers in front of their PODs to juice them up? Are they stupid too?

Behringer consoles have SPECIFICATIONS that look remarkably like those of a SONY or NEVE or etc... Do you not think the components amount to a difference?

Meh, gear snobs are a breeze, compared to beer snobs. :gethim:

I've been yelled at on 2 threads here comparing Axe-FX to the Line6 stuff when it came out. It's funny how people get all upset at that comparison, because I see it as very similar. I say this with total respect for Line6 and the huge imprint they've made with their stuff....yet the new Axe-FX'ers all scream out how superior their new toy is. (& I'd hope so.... considering about 13 years of technology has passed since what I'm comparing to)

But you can compare the quality of the hardware without making the generalization that one is for "the masses" and the other is for pros. It's kind of an underhanded dig.

My favorite style is - "Hey, be glad you can't hear the difference between your Crate and a Two Rock. I wish I couldn't. It would save me lots of money." In other words, not only does your amp suck, but you can't tell the difference, and you're poor.

Reports of it not cutting thru or not being loud enough........the solution is a bigger power amp.
Huh?

Last month I taped my friend's gig and they had little amps miked thru the PA and were tearing it up. Everybody cut thru. Eveybody was loud enough.

By time you lug a rack including a power amp and a 2X12, you might as well get a decent combo or head and 2X12.

.....also, the "I need 45 sounds for my cover gig" is kinda bs.

For decades its been done, its been done better and its been done with relatively simple setups.

If Kages setup was Miked up properly then you'd have a point but it wasn't and his rig would cut fine being properly miked up. As far as the bigger poweramp It's a know fact that you need at least twice as much ss power to match tube power.

As far as a coverband having multiple sounds, that's by choice not out of necessity.
It's a great feeling knowing that you can go from a Boston type sound to Zep with a click of a button.

And the AXE-FX rig that I have is a 4 space rack and 2x12 cab and it is easier for me to lug around then my old 2x12 rig.

I dont care if people want to compare the two, I own a PODXT Pro and know that it is inferior to the axe-fx in many ways.

My problem is some internet square garden player telling me that some gear is for the common man while in Guitar Player mag pros are explaining that they used PODs for their last album.

Just trying to keep it real here folks :D
