That was awesome! The kid looks so happy as he plays too. Very promising future ahead of him.

said it before and will say it again...any monkey can learn a song if its shown to them. Doesn't mean they can actually play guitar...how many hours do you think he spent practicing the motion....yes I said motion. Sorry for the rant but its getting out of hand with all this bedroom tab, instructional video fucking crap look what I can do playing. Future??? to be seen if he actually has talent...cant tell by this.

from an old wanna be guitarist that had to get a real job lol

By future, I'm referring to to the fact that if the kid has the amount of dedication to learn this stuff, he can/is probably hitting the books just as hard etc.

dedication...I will give him that! Its took quite a few hours to get it down mechanically guaranteed!

Quite a few hours?

That kid actually has some feel...I'd say that was pretty fucking amazing...the kid is light years better than I am, and he wasn't just playing by rote.

Dude...if the kid can play THAT at 12, he's talented...period.

You seem to be of the opinion that anyone can learn to play anything. I don't buy into that, for a second.

I'm 44, and have been playing since I was 14. I don't suck, but no matter how many hours I put in, there are things that I'll never play well; certain things require a special skill set.

I kinda agree with the above post.

You see it all the time on YouTube. It's one thing to learn a song and play it once at home then post if on YouTube. But I'll go out on a limb and beg he doesn't fully understand the therapy behind that piece of music, does he know what is going on musically?

Put him in a room with guthrie govan's band for an improvised session and I think the kid would struggle. Just look at the kid who played the songs with steel panther, cover the two VH songs fine, but when it came to the improve bit with Michael Star he failed.

I have a Grade 8 in classical guitar. Not once was I taught to improvise. I spent 10 years reading manuscript & playing other composer's music for 3 or 4 hours a day in my bedroom.

Guess I don't have any talent either.

But surely you were taught the theory that would allow to improvise???

There was no modal theory in the classical syllabus. ABRSM required Grade 5 Theory to commence 6, 7 & 8 practical grades. There was a modest amount of composition required for Grade 5 theory. It was several years later when I got into electric guitar that I discovered modes etc. It's something i've always argued is missing from the classical syllabus. Actually understanding the improvisational frame work of the guitar. The classical syllabus primarily steers you towards performance. That is, performance of music that's already written.
John Williams, David Russell, Manuel Barrueco etc etc etc. None of them composed anything, nor have I heard them improvising over anything. All of them were exceptional players. We don't need to hear them improvising or composing to see that they have an abundance of talent.

lots o' hate for a kid that can probably rip you a new one. Next time we see your vids of Govan covers we'll compare. Reminds me of those players who always argue about technical playing lacking feel.

I have a buddy who is the tablature king...he can play most anything...been playing for years! But he's also the improvisation n00b....he has -0- off the cuff skills. Pretty sad actually :aww:

This kid here definitely does a great job. Let's just hope the 'paint by numbers' guitar playing doesn't keep him from developing his own voice on the guitar in the future like my buddy

Im sure you could play anything if you put your mind to it and totally dedicated yourself...its learning by numbers in this case. Systematic approach will eventually get you there if you put in the time period.
