Well remember I sent mine to Trace shortly after getting mine. I also loved the VC50 which is the 2x12 50watt combo version of the amp. He says he uses an SD-1 to tighten the sound. But nyeah thats the basic sound I remember both the VH100R and VC50 having. This is one of those amps thats allows fast players to fly. It has just the right amount of gain and compression without sounding compressed if that makes any sense. The clean is way above average for a channel switcher. Then again don't ask me. I'm the same sap that thinks the Vintage Modern is a great amp. :D Paige if can find one in decent shape give it a try.

Jim...your VM sounded killer at my place. It held it's own against the Cameron for sure

To me that has more to do with that guy's playing than that amp.........I bet he would sound that way through a bunch of different amps........heck alot of you guys sound great through the merry-go-round of amps that you ride on...

I just played that same amp around here not too long ago......sounded kinda harsh and buzzy.........FWIW I used to have a GH50L......

I wish I had the BDD hen I owned that amp. Here's some IA clips. Since Gilbert switched to the VM and Timmons is now with Boogie he is Laney's man guy for the VH100R I guess.

it has more to do with him hitting it with a boost pedal to tame the buzzyness and flubby bottom then the playing IMHO

Guitar>Boss SD-1>Boss NS-2->Amp

yummmmm :inlove:

i LOOOOOOOVE the tone!

what is the complete set up in the vid?

Wow! That sounded great. Guy's got some skills. A shredder with taste. That's rare.

Hey guys, just stumbled across this thread from my YouTube video (as it is my video posted here haha)

The only reason i use an overdrive pedal is because i use 7 and 8 string guitars, so when tuned lower i need the amp to be tighter. Since then I've replaced the Boss SD-1 with a Maxon OD808 which is a lot smoother sounding.

Also cheers ke2 for posting my bands myspace haha. The 2009 preview was recorded with my VH100R and GS412PA Cab (Vintage 30's) with a single SM57 on axis to the centre of the cone. Signal chain is Guitar->OD808->NS-2->Amp. Other recordings are done with a Pod XT Pro sadly :scared:

I also agree with shred-o-holic as well, i do sound similar using other amps like my JCM 800 but i hardly ever use that since i like the over all tone of the Laney better.

Also cheers! I'm gonna get around to doing a few more demos of the amp soon for youtube but i'll mic it up rather than use the internal mic in my computer.

Also if you are interested, another video i did with the VH100R is this one, although its a bit over the top shred wise and not really that melodic but for what the video was for you'll see why haha.

First off.... Welcome!!!
Second:
Im sure you sound like you playing through anything but that has a lot to do with your style. My comment was directed towards the tone of the amp.....And as a fellow boost guy I think the Laneys sound tighter/Better when you hit it with a pedal! It definitely tightens it up and smooths it out a bit.

Fantastic Playing BTW!!! Don't be a stranger here!!

Ralph

cheers :)

Yea i agree.

And yea ill try not to be a stranger haha, thing is though i post on a lot of forums that i loose track of things lol, ended up forgetting about this place actually, probably why i haven't been on since 2006. Added it to my bookmarks again now.

A great player can make just about anything sound great! I have liked the way Laney amps sound for a while.

I saw that vid as well and thought it sounded awesome! Do you think a GH100L would cut it for stoner rock/hard rock??

How are the Laneys compared to Marshall tone? Less compressed? More compressed? How do the mids compare?

Buzzy?

thanks

-Joe
