Thoughts on Schecter guitars and basses

I have/had 6 or :D

Schecter C1 Blackjack - selected by a friend from 4 or 5 BJs - awesome guitar
Schecter C1 Stealth - limited model - like the BJ, but with SH6s - cool, very similar to the BJ
Schecter Omen Extreme w/lic Floyd - not good, cheap manufactured, tone dead
Schecter C1 Special - with some upgrades an awesome guitar, I still have it, BBQ and Häussel pickups now
Schecter Sunset Hellraiser, orig. Flyod and EMGs - hated it, neck too fat, tone dead
Schecter Sunset Deluxe - cheapest of them all (Basswood, unfinished maple neck) - unbeatable for that money, in the moment Peter Diezel uses it to testdrive his amps (he also has a bunch of other guitars incl. a Schecter C1 Elite) - he likes both a lot, both have upgraded pickups: the Sunset a set of SH6s, the Elite the Schecter pickups from the Sunset :D

I have two. 6 string ATX and 7 string Loomis.

I think they're well made for the money, being Korean made and all. I love the neck on the six string.

I figure they are mostly metal guitars and that's what I use them for.

You have to look out though the newer ones are being made in China and Indonesia(sp?).

Don't know how good those are.

I doubt I'd pick them over my Gibson, GMWs, or Ibanez's if I had to though.

Come to think of it, isn't schecter is owned/operated by ESP? :dunno: I don't know for sure but I've heard that out of a lot of different people over the last few years.

Schecter and ESP are owned by the same guy, yes. I've got a silver C-1 my other guitar player gave me to mess with as its in his tuning, has a JB in the bridge. I would say that for a cheap guitar, its nice, but that's about as far as I would go, personally.

Good for the money. However, agile are pretty much the same quality for less money. Schecter has to pay for all that advertising

Some people here go really overboard with what you "need". Not every player needs an EBMM or Suhr guitar to sound really good. (EBMM are great guitars, but I actually tested out a bunch (a friend of mine had one, yes it was set up correctly) and I actually preferred a Carvin which is why I bought one. I am very satisfied with them.)

And to be honest, I like having a guitar I can thrash a bit. Where the hell is the fun if you are pissing yourself over trying to keep your instrument perfect?

I found a good deal on a C-1 classic and I am pretty happy with it. Good SD pickups in it, locking tuners, 24 fret neck thru, TOM locking bridge and Graph Tech tusq nut.

So far its held up well. A lot of the time people blame the instruments when its really just the setup. Set it up RIGHT then judge the guitar.

And in terms of their guitars "feeling cheap" judgement gets really muddy there. It becomes very subjective and you could have hidden variables.

the c-1 plays good and have good tone. they have a lot of ugly crap though

apparently they have crap resale value, cause I've tried to sell one for less than 300 (a c-1 classic) and have gotten fewer than 5 offers (have posted on several forums)

at least several have OFRs (korean made)

My friend has a Hellraiser FR which is kinda cool. I have never played an upper model? I was interested in the Loomis, but I never pulled the trigger....Wish the Loomis model came in a 6 string.

I have a USA Schecter that i like very much. Top-notch quality and all. However it's not a current model i guess:
