Differences between the HN2+ and HN3 ?

Had an HN3+ years ago; pretty cool but a bit too smooth.

My recollection is that neither was a winner for me. To mild mannered and smooth. I think I liked the HN2+ a little better, although I can't really remember why. This was in a basswood/maple anderson drop top with a floyd. I eventually went with Duncan EVHs, and was happier.

i have played an H3 and IMHO it was one hot fucking pickup. i have no clue where you guys are getting mild mannered and smooth, that thing was very pissed off sounding and extremely clear/defined. it had more balls than anything else i own that is for sure.

Right on. Just ordered a Drop Top 7 with an H3/H1 set so that should be a winner.

I don't care for the 3 series. They are too hot and are pretty smooth. By smooth I mean in the attack. I'm happy with the H2 and H2+ for bridge pickups. They have a sharper pick attack which I like.

I get why people say that but I think it has more to do with the somewhat "hi-fi" nature of Tom's pickups...they lack that ratty harshness that a lot of popular pickups (like a JB) can exhibit. You said it with "clear/defined". They can certainly do smooth and mild mannered but they morph nicely into aggressive and even brutal as you turn up the gain. My personal favorite is the H2+...fairly hot but very big sounding and dynamic.

Anyone else have experience with their HN series pups ?

If I ever get a bolt on guitar again, it'd be an Anderson for Suhr.

I tried one HN3+ or something like that...it came right back out. Cant tell you any specifics though. I'm sure it was too hot for one.

I had the HN3+ ages ago. Too hot. I'm leaning towards an HN2+. I'm bugging Jay to borrow his HN3.

I'm glad to hear this... I had ordered a set of H2+ / H1- pups that should be arriving Friday.... and your JB description is similiar to my complaints with a lot as well. I've happily ran Aldrich bridge / neck pickups for close to 2 years now, and wanted something a little less aggressive.

Killertone, that sounds excellent.. we need pics! ;)

I've got a Drop Top shipping any day now with an H2+ and H1.

What's the difference between the H2+ and HN2+ or H3 and HN3? In other words what's the difference between the N and non-N?
