Now they are saying that he is clinging to life.
 
Very sad news. He made a big contribution to the world of music for A LOT of years -- from the mid 70s to present day. That's a heck of a career! So many great songs.

There's been too much bad news today, that's for sure.

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers were a huge part of the soundtrack of my life when I was gig’n in a band in my 20’s.

That one and Rebels is my favorite TP tunes.
 
RIP Tom was one of my favorite songwriters. Way too young
 
I remember a friend getting a demo version of the first album when I was a young teen. Always liked his songs.

Petty was influential in me learning guitar.
 
Tom's music was pretty good stuff. That said, Facebook wants to make me puke with the outpouring of "Look at me - I'm contributing" BS... Lots of friends who I never once heard mention TP in passing are suddenly his biggest fans...
 
I can't tell you how many times I got lost is some tom petty music. RIP, that's so sad.
He was a great song writer also. His music will live on......
 
Definitely a musical loss. Unfortunately, many of our heroes from the 70s and 80s have done some rough things to their bodies over the years. Those things are catching up with them in later life. It is still sad to see them go.

The music buis isn't what it was, people don't buy shit, and don't like to leave the house.. Rock is all but dead.
 
As a kid I think I wore out the record "Damn the Torpedos". Amazing stuff and so sad to see such a great talent gone too soon.

So sad to hear this news...but he kept rocking to the end and left us with so much great music (such a great song writer). RIP
