This is a killer sounding cab! Very ALIVE, woody, thumpy, and tight. For comparison, the EVH 4x12 with EVH/Heritage greenbacks that I have is somewhat dark bland/smothered sounding.

It’s the speakers….not the cab. That’s exactly how I hear the EVH speakers, and I would add the descriptors”polite” and “smeared”. The EVH 4X12 sounded so much better once I loaded greenback reissues. I still don’t understand the hype around them.

Sounds good to me. Presence on "5". Can go brite as i want.
Amps have bigger bearing on your sound.

I was thinking of taking out the bottom EVH greenback speakers and doing the Friedman thing having V30s on the bottom.

Option 2: Doing what you did replacing all the EVH speakers with UK made greenbacks.

Option 3: Replace with 2 UK Greenbacks and 2 V30s.

Option 4: Sell the cab! 😆

I did the EVH and Greenback "X" thing before I went all greenbacks. You might try that first. It definitely added some cut/sizzle. The only thing that bothered me was that the EVH were significantly quieter than the greenbacks. So, there was some imbalance unless I was far out in front of cab.

Or wait until the new 55hz Blackbacks come out. They have grabbed my interest as long as they aren't as polite as the EVH. I'm afraid they will simply be the EVH with 55hz cones.........which would take them further into the dark/bland direction.

I used EVH 4x12's in the past at some jam sessions and I was never crazy about how the cab sounded or felt compared to my Marshall 4x12's.

I don't know if it's the EVH greenback speakers or the Birch Pine that EVH uses instead of Baltic Birch that Marshall, Mesa, Friedman and others uses but it seems Mr Frehley has experienced what I have with the EVH cab. Baltic Birch is not Pine even if EVH calls it Baltic Pine, it's still Pine.

I used to have a late 70's Marshall/Unicord Big M 4x12 straight cabinet that was all MDF and that cabinet sucked big time, no matter what speakers I threw in the cab it still sucked( dead, lifeless, dark) compared to my OG baltic birch cabinets. Every once in a while I see those cabs pop up and people getting alot more for those Big M cabs than they are worth IMHO because they are old and collectible.

And it looks cool!

Yes, cab is important too; it's not only the speakers, it's the whole. Even if speakers usually have the main impact.
I've done enough speaker/cab swapping tests to experience the impact a cab can have on the sound and feel.
