Tonex Plug

I feel like I have been going crazy because I have been preferring my little $100 ToneX One pedal over my expensive Fractal stuff.

It got even better when I captured my actual tube heads with my settings. Into a cab with a solid state power amp is VERY hard to tell the difference.
interesting.

once you capture your rig, do adjustments to the gain and tone controls on the tonex pedal sound natural and respond as you would expect?

i need to ask my buddy who performed the gtr/vox on this track but i think this was recorded with the big tonex pedal using the 78/79 brown preset:

The EQ in the ToneX is a general EQ put after the sound source, like running an EQ after your amp before the cab. It does not work like the amp EQ.

I have spent a lot of time getting a reamp box, and measuring the output to match my guitar as much as possible, so I got the captures coming out very close to as if I were plugging directly in in terms of gain level.

The ToneX stuff was the first time I tried captures/profiles at all and I was pleasantly surprised. Like Shask said above, it won’t respond like the actual amp’s EQ, but IK did a pretty good job at making it so if you weren’t familiar with the amp you probably wouldn’t think “This definitely isn’t like turning up the treble on this amp”, it’s not drastic enough where it takes the amp totally away from the sound of the cap, but good enough I was able to make whatever I was using sit in a mix without additional EQ.

The gain adjustments surprised me a bit, they cleaned up more than I expected them to.

I’m grabbing a couple ToneX One’s to stash in various places. For the price/size it’s silly not to. While I’d rather have a full rig to jam with, it’s not always feasible when I head to New England to see family, so I’ll definitely be keeping one up there and I’ll toss another in a guitar case so I have a backup for my backup of a backup.
