No need for the bells and whistles. The Tom Tom does what it does, and does it very well.
My phone also has a great built in one. It's an Android based phone that uses Google Maps and works very well.

I don't know much about gps's...

But Happy McBirfday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rawk:

I have a Magellan dock, and use the Navigon software for my iPod touch. Would have been a cheaper to buy a standalone GPS, but it works out really good for me. I much prefer it to my gf's Garmin 1390, and the few Tom Toms I have tried. Then again I have no idea how it works outside of the NJ/NY area yet as I have yet to venture outside.

iPhone uses a sim card. If you use a pin in that hole on the top of the phone (not the headphone jack, it's next to it), it pops out.

Get that new TomTom with James Earl Jones doing Darth Vaders voice on it

So I guess you get a TomTom and then you can upload different starwars voices

Garmin Nuvi series for the win!! :2thumbsup:

There are ways to jail break and unlock an iPhone, just search the net, plenty of apps out there that will do it depending on which software version you are currently running.

I have a cheap Garmin C340 or something. I think it was around $130 when I got it. It works great. Only problems I have is when I'm driving around downtown Pittsburgh. It really seems to get confused and is completely useless. I have no idea why though. I just updated the maps and I don't have problems anywhere else. I once drove 12 hours from here to Memphis and it worked perfectly.

Garmin Nuvi...just make sure it has the most current features, they have some with real time traffic and bluetooth, USB output etc. I've never liked TomToms.

Well since the LA stands for Louisiana, maybe you could come down for an amp fest or something.

Ok I live in Canada, I see a very long road trip in the very near future from the Ottawa/Montreal area to Southern California.
My wife wants to get me a GPS for my birthday (today).
I have no clue on what brand or model.

I tried a few on my iPhone and they sucked. In Ottawa and Montreal they continually were trying to find my current location and did nothing but get me lost. Plus my iPhone will want to go roaming at a million dollars per second.

On another note, is there anything I can do to my Bell iPhone to make it work in the States with American providers? I still have 2 years on my Bell contract, I doubt I can get out of that. What a drag. $100 a month for an iPod touch...lol.
I've heard of jailbreaking it, but that sounds like I'm just going to break the damn thing.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Just remember, when traveling through the US and you happen upon the sound of dueling banjos, cover your sphincter and run! But that usually only happens going through Customs or extremely remote portions of the deep south...

I love my Garmin. It has an SD card slot which lets it double as an MP3 player. It can transmit through your FM radio or an aux input if your radio has one.
