I traded some pedals in and ended up with enough to get a BOSS Katana MKII. Still messing with it but great little amp and sounds great with my own pedals too!

Can't beat the price for these. I want to mess around with the BOSS studio and sew what this thing is capable of.

I still love my MK 1 .. I run it as the "wet" amp in a 3 amp rig (the other amps being a stereo pre amp that is original 5150 on one side and a randall satan on the other) ... it sounds huge

Which one did you get? The Artist is on sale right now along with the 50

I got the 100 watt mkII. I thought about getting the artist but for the price, my plan is to eventually get a second one and do the stereo link thing. I have a bunch of stereo Keeley pedals I'd love to use.

Yes, use the Boss Studio Editor asap!!!
So does the editor just replace sounds in the amp since there are only so many slots? I thought the amp itself had a certain sound and that was the limit of it.

What does the Katana give you that your Axe II, or other tube amps gave?

They still have the same preamp channels, but you can go in and select all the effects, change the effects, tweak them, etc... you also can change the total EQs, and adjust the noise gate, and cabinet resonance, and all kinds of things. You can tweak it to sound much better than how it comes. I really dont even like it without running the 4 band parametric EQs on the presets.

Hey dude! You know I loved my AxeFx-II but I found myself with a ton of tones, amps, etc and I really only need, and used a few (Marshall type tones).

I have a 5150-III 6l6 50w and really love it. The Katana idea started out as a solid backup for my 5150-III but the more research I did, I realized thos could be a great first amp too.

Really for me it is about:
- Reliable solid state
- Light and portable
- Great price
- Sounds great on it's own but my pedals sound killer with it too!
- Super loud

I've barely delved into it but just great grabbing my guitar, plugging in and playing. My 5150-III isn't going anywhere but will be interesting when I use the Katana at a band practice to see what happens. Lol.

I still have my Axe II and GT1000FX, and 5153 6L6, and a Katana I head, lol.

I got a Fractal LB-2 Load Box a few weeks ago, so I have been messing with that a lot. I havent been happy with my Axe II for awhile, but in trying to set it up as an effects unit I found some wonky settings, and now it is sounding great again. It actually has me looking at an Axe III or an FM3. I also dont need that many sounds or switching, so I am thinking a FM3 might be a better choice.

The Katana is cool, and the II is starting to get some good updates that separate it from the I. Definitely get in the software and start tweaking. It is basically a full blown multi-effects processor built into an amp. I use the EQs to make it sound more extreme and metal. I like the Overdrive or Tubescreamer OD pedals. In the global EQ I like to cut the high end and boost the low end, so that it is darker and more bass heavy overall.

Katana is a decent enough amp, especially for the price. It's not my favourite amp to use but is a great backup or lightweight setup. I've used mine for the better part of a year at rehearsals and for some live gigs. I do find it a bit grating after listening to it for a full set or rehearsal but that is the nature of things. I have been running it to FOH by turning on the stereo switch and running out of that output to a TC IR pedal. It sounds great with that setup.
