Seeking help from the more versed people in regards to the triaxis

I currently have an opportunity to buy a newer triaxis , serial number T8612

From what I can find in the internet these are not the most sought after versions

Am I best off waiting for an older one with the tx4 board?

Thanks

Yes. even if you can find a fat modded tx4 you can reverse that to the good stuff. the tx5 is awful.

Thanks so much ?

I’ll keep that in mind, I think this one is close to one of the last ones they made

Thanks a bunch for the info you saved me 800€ mistake!

Agreed.

I had a non fat TX4 Triaxis and it was great.

is there a way to tell on the power up which board it has?

Guys I have another one another shop has come back to me with

Serial number T3641

From the link it seems to suggest v2 tx4 non phat mode, is there any way I can be sure?

The seller is in another country so can’t check myself

Yes that is a non fat mod and I would grab that if I were you. I had one with a fat mod and got it reversed by Mesa and that channel became useless to AWESOME.

Thanking you ?

As a long time Triaxis owner and user, I have the non-fat, recto mod sought after version. I can tell you, the recto mode sucks, regardless of which version you have. The updated boards changed the recto mode, but also improved the midi features. If the price is right on the one for sale, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. You are only going to use the Ld2 modes anyway, so don't pay extra for something that you will never use, because it's a fizzy, thin mess.

As further verification of my statements, watch the Youtube video of John Petrucci demoing his triaxis rig from the 2014-16 era tours and then watch Olas triaxis video and his triaxis plugin video. No where in any of these videos are these guys using the recto mode, the recto mode is pure hype.

Thanks a million for the advice, based on the serial number I think the one I am looking at falls under that bracket

They are looking for €920 plus 55 shipping and have already rejected 3 offers on same so I would say people have tried to low ball them . I’d say I could get it for 950 all in

I haven't priced them in a long time to know if that is good or not, but if you want one and it's in good condition and the price is comparable, I would say pull the trigger.

Once you have it, there are old websites out there with patches or at least settings for certain guys sounds. The Ola video is a great place to start as is the shot of John P that I referenced early. You can pause the video and see what his settings are. The key is keeping the bass really low, 0-4 at most, or it will get loose and woofy.

I should add that you want to pair it with a good tube power amp. I ran mine initially through a SS amp and it was under whelming. Once I bought the 50/50, wow, what a difference. The 2:90 is the bees knees.
