I bet I spend $200/month on suet and birdseed. And it's summer. Those fuckers got plenty of food. lol

I don't begrudge him for his choices on what he spends on - but I'll fling it back in his face if he thinks my choices are irresponsible.

It's only irresponsible to spend on big ticket items if you haven't provided enough to live on long term.

Some people spend $20k on travel each year. I don't.'

Some people spend it on booze. I don't even drink or smoke anymore. So no expense there.

I wouldn't criticize anyone for being irresponsible with their own money either. Money ain't shit. I got enough I won't have to eat cat food when I'm old so I'm cool.

Let's not muddy the waters. I don't think 5k on a coffee maker is irresponsible, I think it's absolutely stupid. But I can admit, it's your money. Or was your money.:LOL:

That is just the Trump fanboi mo. The middle is huge in America and the current administration is making it bigger every day. The middle is big enough for conservatives and liberals, unfortunately the extreme right and left nutjobs are just so much louder than the majority.
You can tell when MAGA has no response to a comment about something Trump did when they say “but Biden…..” like a child complaining about their sibling to their parents.

Thank you JD. I basically turned a single wide party pad on some acreage into a nice custom 700 sq ft cabin with a loft. I got in before the prices went nuts in Central TX. I've locked up some of the better paying gigs here so now it's time to move on down the line to someplace less populated. Hopefully with better soil and more acreage. I'm tired of living near 15 million people.

I already have some acreage down in Terlingua I bought years ago so I had a place to go die if I needed it. I've been out there but there are real problems with homesteading an area like that, starting with no guaranteed water supply. It's looking like the next stop is either the ozarks or the deep south.

Just to throw a wrench in there, look up "earthships" on youTube. It's a construction technique for off grid living that also includes solar, passive heating/cooling and rainwater collection. Might not be your thing but it's interesting.

I've looked at them for sale before but they are usually overpriced and since it's still basically an experimental concept they don't really work as good as they are intended to. Can you imagine building one by hand way out in the desert, lugging hundreds of tires out there and then sledgehammering each one full of dirt?

I think adobe/superadobe is a better idea but truthfully short of having water running down an elevation that could be self tapped for hydro I think the best bet is just a small, efficient home that is easy on the electric bill.
