Trying to compare EVH and Randy Rhoads... Get real.

Ozzy.Randy Cleveland 1981 . Supposedly this is the show that was used for Tribute except for Randys spotlight solo which they spliced in from Montreal for Tribute . Ozzy's vocals here are untouched vs the heavily touched up and overdubbed vocals used for Tribute. Montreal `81 is killer as well and Randys playing is taken up a few notches , I couldn`t find a full version of it on Youtube , just single videos

Definitive Tribute . Montreal `81 and Cleveland `81 silver pressed CDs. Killer set

Greensboro `81 , my favorite bootleg from the `81 tour and IMO the best sounding show from that tour in circulation not counting the Oakland videos. Eds spotlight solo is off the charts here

Another one I never heard before. This is more like the tone I heard when I saw him. Man the solo in Believer is killer on this.

That`s a really good one from early in the Diary tour . I've had it on CDR for a while now. The version of Over The Mountain sounds way better here than the US versions in `82 where Don was doubling a lot of Randys lines

It’s kind of weird to compare guitar players like it’s a sporting event. Artists move us emotionally in different ways. Maybe someone is moved by a perception of skill or speed but we are all a little bit unique. I liked Ozzy/RR better than Van Halen upon first hearing, but I can’t say one was better as in a contest. My favorite guitar player is David Gilmour, none move me as he does! 🤷‍♂️

I’ve always liked the way they sounded too. I don’t remember any teenagers in ‘81-‘82 complaining about the tones on Blizzard and Dairy . Everyone just thought the songs were badass

I think a quarter of the people complaining are comparing it to newer, modern hi-gain tones and three quarters of the people complaining are just repeating some shit they read on an internet guitar forum.

The solo in Revelation is killer too.
Yes indeed . Trippy as they always went into Steal Away The Night after Revelation but not at that Germany gig , it`s also one time Ozzy didn't introduce the song in the usual "This is entitled Revelation Mother Earth , thank you". They were openers on that leg of the tour and supposedly Ozzy was really fubar at the time so that might've had something to do with it

This is a great thread, all the posts are excellent! Ed, Randy and MSG were the guys that inspired me to play. I don't really put one in front of the others, they all are great and have their own strengths.:2thumbsup::rock:
Right on Schenker ! He really starts tearing it up at 3:50 here , Cozy Powells drumming is the icing on the cake

I thought they were probably opening being only 40 ish minutes. Who were they opening for?

I’ve read it was Saxon . Supposedly Sharon cut the tour short because was more of a mess than usual
