It is nearly impossible to get a Cameron modded amp here in Sweden so I have to try to nail the tone by myself.

I have a Tommy Folkesson Modded Laney PA 100 that sounds killer and now I want the Cameron sound to :)

I have bought another Laney PA 100 to use as a platform to build a three channel amp. I have desoldered most of the stock components and built it up from the start.
The plan is to nail the Cameron HG José and Aldrich sound and maybe early Van Halen sound on the third channel.

I have started with the "Aldrich-channel", here are two clips I recorded yesterday:
Four gain stages with anode follower.

Tips and ideas are welcome!

Good luck with the build. I can't help but mention a thing called the internet, you can buy almost anything you want on it! Just sayin.

I've heard stock JCM800's and JMP's boosted with a good OD pedal and some volume sound as good as any modded Marshall, and a good 4x12 helps. The thing is you just need to turn them up.

That sounds great!

Old tube P.A.'s can be great for guitar imo.

Back in the 90's I used an old tube P.A. and pedals for my dirt. It was all I could afford at the time.

Sounds fantastic, keep doin what your doin.

Those look like the same Transformers that are in old Hiwatts.

Nice! I wish I could find one of those laney PA's and mod it :)

We ship new Camerons to Sweeden with correct voltage.

Channel 2 finished!

Here is a clip of both channels:

It feels awesome to play it now! :D

Wow... that does sound great, and actually – based on clips only – has some Cameron vibe to it.

Buying and importing a boutique amp from the US is prohibitively expensive: 23%/25% VAT, 3.5% import tax, transport costs and potentially extra fixed import fees. Except for some crappy YouTube videos you have to buy it without hearing it for yourself first; and there's no guarantee you'll ever get rid of it locally. Sure I'd like to play a Cameron, Fortin, Friedman or other "forum favourites", but with the risks involved, it's a gigantic leap of faith.

I wish I had the skill (or will and time to learn) to make my own amp and tweak it until it sounds exactly like I want – it seems a great and undoubtedly rewarding skill.

Damn! That has a nice bite to it!

love it... sounds better to a lot of the cameron's I've heard in clips. Open, crunchy, and raw. Bitchin tone.

very awesome =0

out of interest how many man hours did that take to do?

would love to have the skills to do something similar, i've just started soldering pickups and what not a few months back and still suck heh , the folkesson stuff sounds amazing from the videos of yours i've seen, really great grinding tone, i live in europe so it's a bit more accessible i guess

OP deserves best home modded amp made from a shitty old P.A. in the shortest time. Is there such an award? Sounds goood!
