Hey guys/gals...thinking bout getting a tube amp for bedroom practice.

Are those mini/micro amps any good?

It will be my first tube amp btw.

Will be playing everything from blue oyster cult to 80s metal to brutal deathmetal! :D

It's just a thought for now, with no budget in mind at this time.

Let me hear your suggestions!

EVH 50 watt head I had was great for low volume bedroom. The EVH combo amps even have a power soak on them also.

Nothing wrong with 100 watt Marshalls.

Its a myth you need a small amp at home.

The above statement is absurd and obviously he is trolling. The power amp saturation point on a 100w Marshall would be too loud.

It's not a myth as needle dick above just posted. The 5153 50 is good for home practice for sure. There are many options nowadays.

A Watt is a measure of power.

Decibel is measure of SPL's, two different things.

I've found that 0.1W is decent bedroom volume. Here are the options I recommend:

- Marshall 1W anniversary amps
- Marshall DSL40C (high gain, good master volume)
- Any amp with a re-amper (Unleash, Ultimate, Power Station)

What's you budget? What features do you need (reverb, fx loop, 2 channels, etc)?

Get the amp you always wanted and plug it into a good attenuator like a Two Notes Torpedo Reload or Fryette Power Station.

I'm using the Randall RVC (RD5), and it's pretty good! It's only got one channel, though. It does cool high-gain tones or even spanky-sounding class A cleans which take pedals well if you set the gain low and the master high. :)

I did have to change a couple of the stock tubes and speaker, though. The stock tubes get the job done, but the stock speaker is atrocious.

Come to think of it, I would only recommend either the head version or the combo if you grab it for cheap. Like I said, the stock speaker is atrocious and it definitely benefits from a speaker swap.

I really like those Marshall anniversary amps
At first, I was like.. I think I 'll get the 45, then I was like, Na.. I want the Jmp. Then I said.. I want em all

They all sound killer imo

The 6505mh is great choice. The 5153lbx would kill too.

Personally, I've always wanted a Baron Snott Watt:

THIS!

I have the 1x12 combo and it's GREAT for home use.
Also can double for gigging.

I use a Mesa ta15. 5watt setting is great for keeping the volume easier to control. Can go up to 25watts if you want to play out. Very versatile, but lasting the gain and punch if you want the brutalz.
Mesa has the mini recto and mini mark v if you need more gain. The big Mesa mark v has a great master volume to, so don't overlook that.

I do prefer the thump of my bigger amps, but the ta15 works wonders with its portability and tone. I tried the Marshall 2553 in my bedroom and struggled to keep the volume in check, but I did like the tones I got from it.

I was in the same boat back in December and went for a Friedman Pink Taco with a Bogner 1x12 cube. Couldn't be happier. The PT is a 20watt amp but works great at low levels and it sounds amazing at rehearsal on 8. The only thing is there is no clean channel but if you roll back the volume it works well.

Another alternative would be the Marshall Major. Once they hit their sweet spot, they sound Godly.

And who would've known at only 200 watts, it would be such a kick ass bedroom practice tube amp?

Go figure

anything with a mv...

This. I can play at home pretty easily without disturbing the fam late at night (although I usually turn it up pretty loud:) I never liked lunchbox amps and still prefer big amps but the EVH LBX is a cool little amp. Thing rips and can get pretty loud. If you don't need a clean channel I highly recommend it!
