RRHOF has been a corporate joke for a very long time.

the rrhof has justified this decision by saying its because its music with the rock and roll attitude.

ok...by that argument, why isnt g.g.allen the king of rock?

Id say the HOF is trying to generate revenue & expand its base by pandering to the Rappers.

The Rock and Roll HOF is far from strictly rock. NWA, Public Enemy, and Run DMC are already in so there's precedent and it's not much more of a stretch to have Tupac.

The whole music industry has been pandering to rappers for 10 years now. Then they wonder why music doesn't sell anymore.

RRHOF is a joke and everyone knows it. At this point, I don't think anyone takes it seriously...it has lost all credibility.

It helps with the government dependency thing I guess. I can recognize there is skill in rap music. Most of the rappers are poets (the ones that wrote their own lyrics) and even though most don't play instruments or compose their own music (some do) it still is a skill creating good rap songs. Either way there is nothing rock about it unless it's some crossover thing like bring the noise or something like that. Even still that should not be in the RRHOF IMO.

Rock's been dead for about 20 years. Sure, there are a few bands out there carrying the torch, but it'll never be as big as it was at its peak in the 20th century.

When a band like Abba is inducted into the RRHOF, it just makes me shake my head. Let alone rappers, disco, and pop stars also getting the nod. I guess my connotation of rock differs greatly from the "rocket scientists" making the selections.

While I am cool with the evolution of rock, there are just so few doing it right.

And the more I think about it, how are legendary rock producers not in there as well?

  • George Martin
  • Martin Burch
  • Rick Rubin
  • Bob Rock
  • Brian Eno
I don't think any of the above are in the RRHOF.

Good call. Rubin especially has produced some of my all time favorites while growing up as a kid and still at it.

I hear Tupac's hologram is going to be fronting JOURNEY if Steve Perry is a no show

GG

I'm not a big fan of rappers getting in before Priest, Maiden, Motley Crue, etc., etc. who were actual rock and roll and sold billions of albums, played stadiums in nearly every country, and have songs all over the radio, video, etc.

With that said, a little side story about Tupac. Back in the mid 90s, I was stationed in Hawaii and went to dinner at the Hard Rock Café. Tupac, which nobody noticed at the time, actually bumped into me and made me fall forward a bit. When I turned around to go "what the hell?", I noticed the bandana and nose ring, etc. and was like "that's Tupac!".

I went in and quietly asked if that was him and the staff said "yes, but he is eating and wants to be left alone so he can relax". So I went and waited by his rental car. When they came out, the cops held everyone back near the restaurant. I was by his car, alone and he literally walked right up to me with nobody else around. I said hi and asked for his autograph and he was super cool. Then the cops let everyone else go and he signed all types of stuff, took pics, etc.

The funny thing was that I was wearing some type of rock shirt like Ratt or Bulletboys or something so he probably thought I was a goon. :) The sad thing was within a few months he had been shot dead. Felt weird as I had just met him. He was definitely a really talented artist.

If the RnR HOF were renamed the Pop Music HOF, there would be far less uproar and confusion.

What's next? Kenny G will get rock god of the year?

Um, dude.... Kenny "Smokestack" G. windpipe master _is_ rock god of the year.....decade!!

As for 2Pac in the RRHOF, care not, but of all the rappers out there, loved his style as one of the best. Listen to him to this day - regularly.
