i still consider the two rock clean sound the one to beat and i am a clean
tone freak. the two rock dirty is still more of a hit and miss venture.
some like the bluesy fusion it excels at, others want more marshall fire,
which is why a two rock and a peacemaker two amp rig would own supreme.
+1
I had a K&M Custom. The clean tones were killer but the gain was just ok...so I ditched it. Honestly, I couldn't justify keeping a $2K + amp for just clean playing...
and therein lies the rub...either the multi channel amp or rack rig that does many things really well,
or the dedicated amp per ultimate tone/multi amp rig, which up to this point still seem to deliver the best TONE, at the highest cost and hassle factor.
and trust me when i tell you the idea of a axe-fx sounds killer for size/flexibility when you consider:
"hmm...load a 22 space rack, a few amp heads, a stereo power amp, 3 4x12s, a pedalboard, a few guitars, and a gig bag in and out of a large vehicle with two guys and set up/tear down time,
or
an axefx and power amp in a 6 space rack, 2 1x12s, and a few guitars and a gig bag in and out of a small trunk with one person."
that is the question
i made this suggestion eons ago on the L6 forum when I first got my POD v1 and i'll restate it here:
a footswitchable floor unit version of axe-fx with a dry out and two stereo wet outs, AND floor dockable *tri* power amp with graphic eq, which the axe fx floorboard mates to, and some form of tube interface. i mean why "model" a tube response when a company like presonus can make a 99 dollar tube pre----just stick a real tube in there! seems to do wonders for the vox stuff.
and crate can kick out the stereo powerblock for 99 bucks which sounds decent...
these could be accesories that the axe-fx gang could implement to further their empire.
axe-fx floorboard
axe-fx tri-power power docking station (which they sorta seem to be working on with the atomic stuff)
tube effects loop interface
