I picked this up earlier this week.

1985 Gibson Spirit II XPL

Think, double cut Les Paul with an explorer neck, but a flat top, instead of a carved top.

Actually, it very closely resembles a HAMER SUNBURST.

This guitar is all original, except for the tuners, which the previous owner installed. It has a Kahler 3200 Tremolo system, two volume, one tone, three-way toggle, and two Tim Shaw, PAF pickups! Untouched solder joints in the control cavity. Everything appears to be original.

I was really surprised to see a long neck tenon when I took out the neck pick up to inspect it. The frets are still quite tall and original, I don’t think they’ve even been dressed once?

The neck is a really comfortable medium C carve.

It sets up with a nice low action, and plays really really nice!

The tone from the Shaw PAFs is absolutely amazing!

Love it. Gibson should do runs of all their guitars with the Explorer headstock. It looks kinda goofy on an LP but somehow awesome to me.

Yeah I dig it. I played a 1 hum "LP Jr" body that had the Kahler and Explorer headstock many years ago and I still think about it.

Very cool guitar! There is one for sale not too far from me, CAR metal flake with gold hardware but the bridge pickup is double black so probably not the Shaw.

That looks awesome - I like that a lot. One of those guitars that says “play me”. Nice catch!

That’s a really cool guitar, congrats on the score
