I actually like the tone on Blizzard, especially on Revelation. It's very midrangey to my ears though, but it sounds good with the band.

Also, plink. I never knew there was such a thing for that sound. Plink. From now on, I can sound interesting when someone talks about Sabbath.

If you want to sound even more interesting, you can talk about how AFTER evh Iommi changed his tone to sound more modern - the plink stops in the early 80s on the dio records.

I just listened to Van Halen 1 with good headphones, and I don't think Eddie's tone was better than Randy Rhoads' at the time. People always crap on Randy's tone, but Eddie's really wasn't any better to my ears.

I'm actually glad you bumped this thread because these threads are always a great read. But what you really should have done is create a new thread about Edward Van Halen and his tone because no one talks about it anymore

Mr. Travis is on to something thought with this plink thing. EVH (and Templeton) did usher in modern rock (along with Rush and Boston, etc). I guess I somewhat attributed the palm muting to bridge pickup development but I may be way off there.

I like both tones in their own way, the key is that they are different

Listening to Iommi throughout the years is like listening to "heavy metal guitar sound" evolve in real time all the way throughout his career

The plink sound IS the sound of doom, still, to this day
