USA Gunslinger sounds crappy. Pickup recomendation?

My BC RICH STIII sounded great with a Dimarzio PAF Pro, and a Super D. I have a SD Sceamin Demon in it now, but I don't like it nearly as much as the Dimarzios I had in there.

Great ideas guys. I did eliminate the tone pot and it seemed a touch brighter/better. I'll try a few more pickups and the different/higher resistance pots. If that doesn't do it I'm done screwing around with it.

Try a one meg volume pot or no volume. Dump the tone. Less load is more highs and higger peak with passives.

Most of them came with Super Distortions back in the day. That's how I'd roll based on the issues the OP is having.

What kind of bridge does it have? If is a cheaper model Floyd Rose, I'd bet that the bridge is your issue. I've had guitars that just seems dull no matter what pickups I tried. Swapped the lower end FR for a high quality unit and the results where amazing.

Is it one from the 80's? not the reissue from a few years back....I've ran a ton through mine too...SD Custom Custom sounded good...now it has a DiMarzio Super D in it...originally had a DiMarzio Super II I believe..hated it....my other one has a Gibson Dirty Fingers in it...how I got it and it sounds KILLER...going to try one of those someday in my other one..both USA Gunslingers from the late 80's early 90's...if you end up hating it talk to me I would seriously consider buying it as I love the necks...

I have a shit-brick Fender Contemporary Stratocaster HSS from the 80's that's made out of basswood, and the Dimarzio Super Distortion was easily the best sounding pickup in it. Love the feel of the guitar and the neck, but the wood sounds like shit. The SD has tons of bass, girth, and enough highs to make notes jump out of a dull guitar.

Definitely check the volume pot too and make sure it's at least 500k.

Sounded dull and flat with the stock trem. Bought a brand new Schaller. Made no difference. Installed brass block. Made no difference in the dullness. Made the dull fuller.
Eliminated the tone. Helped a tiny bit. Installed brighter strings. Sounds decent not plugged in. Changed pickups 3 times. The Fishman Modern made it close but no cigar.

It's not like I haven't given it a chance. I have. The pickups are my last resort. I appreciate the recommendations, I really do. I will try the ones you guys suggested. I have 16 other guitars that don't sound like this. I have spent a bunch of time and money finding shit that works. I usually don't put this type of effort into a guitar. I shitcan it if it sucks but I really want to like this guitar! Plays great and sounds like it's under water. :aww:

The pickup slant may be the issue. Darker that way. Tye electroncod may be screwed also. Ever gut it?

+100 on the slanted pickup route. I had an old original Kramer Baretta like that from the '80s.
