Thats basically the local craiglist scene where I live

I have always been a flipper TBH. BUT I am not the type to look for the newest thing. If I can't get it for 60% or less than the original price, I buy something else.

My local CL is a shit show now. The market for sellers sucks now.

I really get a kick out of 'save $30 and the taxes' that is laughable to me.

Some sellers are just idiots. I was looking for a pedal on reverb this morning, $180 new, a dude has one listed used for $150. I offered $140 since it was the only used one listed and he declined the offer. It was listed 8 months ago. Fucking idiots...
There's a dude on my local Craigslist who has had a slow cooker for $20 up for sale for over a year. I would love to take a look at this guy's inbox, because it's impossible it's because he's received no offers in that timeframe.

Again, the time it took that person to create the ad, put in pics, keep it going, respond to inquiries HAS to be worth more than $20

If you are at that point and need to unload something it is better to just give it away.

Its not like people selling gear for close to the new price is unique to this year. What I find with the market recently is that when I want to buy something I can't find a good deal, when I want to sell sometime that I have to keep dropping the price till it sells. Seems to be the paradox I am in. I do think its a buyers market, but it usually picks up during tax time as to the best time to sell something, so we will see this year.

Here are some possible reasons I think we see this so often:
- Person is not serious about selling. If it sells for what they want great, if not they will list it indefinitely
- Item is worth more to the person than the market is for it. Maybe they paid too much, but in this case they really shouldn't be selling it.
- Person thinks their item is somehow unique or special. This would be the case with a wait list on a new item or if the item has just launched, but that quickly fades

I generally find when the person has something listed to high, that its not worth haggling, usually just wait for a 15% off sale. Particularly with pedals this works well.

I will say that it's easy to list things on Reverb as a tester. Under the 'huh let's see if it will sell for this' thing.

I listed some high dollar horns like that on Reverb. Sold one, kept the other. I figured OK if I can get $2k I will. If not, oh well.

But I won't do that on CL because it's a pain in the ass to deal with reposting and dealing with the spammers and feeler people. Reverb it's either a question or an offer. No wasted time

I've noticed it in my search for a 90's American Standard Strat. I've seen prices from 800 to 1500 and in most cases they are not 1 of a kind nor are they a special color.

Yea but with reverb I have to Jack the price to cover the fees . I last thing I sold I had on reverb for $400 more than on the forum . Sold it on the forum

Had a guy who a used Marshall cab that was up for months. He wanted $700 and the cab was a little beat up(which I couldnt care less)
You can get them for $450 -550 so I made an offer for $500 explaining not many guys want a 4x12 it seems. I even went to $550 and this was going to be a local deal. He said he knew what it was worth and declined. He also had a 1977 cab up for like $1750. I got a 1973 all original for $800. I dunno where some people get their pricing from?
Cabs are the worst guitar related item for selling I think. The absolute worst are those Marshall 1960a or b cabs, so many people want to get $500-600 for them and it’s just not going to happen unless they’re loaded with some really sweet after market / vintage speakers. I’ve seen lightly used ones sit for weeks at $275-$300 before selling.

Another fun one is people selling unloaded avatar cabs for the same price you can get them direct from Avatar.. wtf?

Last time I tried selling cabs was a nightmare. I ended up putting a 4x12 Avatar up on CL for free, just come pick it up. I kept the speakers, still have them. I sold a Marshall 1960 cab for less than $200, can’t remember exactly.

BeforeI sell, I always check Reverb SOLD listings, sort on most recent first and take the average of the last 5 or 10 sold. I sell in that ballpark (the average sold price) higher or lower depending on what I think may be negotiated or how quickly I want it gone.

I do the same search before I buy something unless it’s something cheap. I’ve presented that to sellers on Reverb before to get their price down, sometimes it works and sometimes not.

Seriously, where the fuck are all of these cheap 1960s when I'm looking for them? I don't think I've ever once found one for cheaper than $400.

Yup, the number of guitars being re-listed again and again at the same insane price point on eBay/reverb is insane. Search for "sold" listings on those sites and you'll see that there have been scant few actually sold compared to what is listed (ex ESP, Mayones, SUHR). Crackheads gonna crackhead.
Having said that though, any time I list something I am inundated by insane low-ball offers. Again, crackheads gonna crackhead.
Ppl are broke and trying to screw each other left and right, cause they got screwed and want to pass on the love! It's just crack and love these days.

That's typically what I do as well. Check reverb and ebay sold items. Then look to see what others are available for sale and be the lowest available price 99% of the time.

I always list higher on reverb to cover fees as well and always open to offers but lowballs get declined immediately and not worth even countering.

Reverb should update their auto declines. Right now it is 64% of asking price which imo is pretty much a low ball. If I list something for $1k im not selling it for $640 minus fees.

What get's me is why do some people get so offended when you make a reasonable offer? I can understand being told to fuck off over a low ball.

Is the guy from NY/NJ? Being told to fuck off is like saying Hello out out this ways

For me it’s really easy to sell used.
Example ‘new....’ $2500!!’’

Me.. ‘$1600’. OBO.
Sell for $1500. Maybe I’m crazy.

But I sold last 3 big buck items.

I have no issue with people asking whatever $$ they want. It's their item, their prerogative. I take more issue with lowball offers. Don't waste my time and go screw yourself. Either you want it or you don't.

There was a guy on my local CL selling a Mark V for $1450 in good shape. Seemed like a decent enough deal so I emailed asking for more specifics. He failed to write in the description that it's missing the footswitch, which as we know is an important accessory for the Mark V. I said those go for $180, so if he'd take that off his asking then I'd buy it.

He said no way, and when I politely responded "sounds good, my offer stands if you ever decide to change your mind" he said "I won't". Haha, alright man, good luck with your fuckin sale. Last I checked he had raised the price to $1750, and still didn't list the missing footswitch in his description. Fucking amateurs.
