WTF is up with all the overpriced guitars "from japan" when I search for a guitar? It's all from a seller named "superbanjoman".
They're all like twice the actual value. Are people actually buying these?

Probably not any of this crew. Everyone's too savvy. There's too many legit deals on Japanese guitars out there.

Every once in a while that seller will list a Caparison in great shape for a good price but a lot of the time they will list a ton of overpriced stuff with $180 shipping.

The seller doesn't own the guitars, they're taking a legit item for sale in Japan, marking it up, and will act as a middle man if anyone is dumb enough to purchase.

They're doing the same with all the other high end brands, as well.

Exactly. they are middle men. I was looking at a cool Tokai, and noticed 3 different guys were selling the SAME guitar!! They go and take pictures where the guitar is being sold, mark it up and post it. Then they will also say, "I have this guitar listed on many sites for sale, so please contact me before you purchase it to make sure I still have it." Sure, they have to make sure their competitor hasn't sold it yet!

figures. There's a used Suhr I REALLY wanted but not at that price

Makes me chuckle when I see the same guitar listed by 3 different Japanese sellers, for waaaaay more than it's listed for on yahoo auctions. Wonder if anyone ever buys?..

Doubtful, I contacted the seller one time about a Greco, cant remember model, maybe egf-1000? anyhow, I contacted him to ask if he was actually serious about the price, $3600!!!!, and he responded saying he might be able to take 100 bucks off, and here is the best part, he said if he took a hundred off the price, "that he would have to suffer a real hardship, because most of his money goes to his sick mom who is dying, but if I was ok with taking cash away from a dying mom, he would do it, just to get it sold so he would have some money to take care of his dying mom," and he kept emphasizing the word, "dying!!!" I saw the same guitar, not the exact same guitar, but the same model, same year, in much better condition for $1400. I told him this, and he told me that I got lucky to even see it at that price, like I spotted a super rare endangered species. Over the next couple weeks he contacted me 3 or 4 times sayin he would take off 200, then another hundred and so on, and his messages were just nuts, at first he said, "I have to recoup the money I spent on the guitar (he didn't buy the guitar, he took pics at a music store) because my dying moms condition has taken a turn for the worse and I have to get her special medicine to save her life!" Not long after he sent one that said, "I know how bad you want this guitar, and I am wiling to take a loss to let you get your dream guitar (who ever said anything about a dream guitar?) because I like to help peoples dreams come true!" And the next was my favorite, he said, "ok, this is the last time I will reduce the price for you, but I want to let you know, that you are now taking food out of my kids mouth! BUT, I will do it to make your dreams come true!" At this point the guitar was still like 1500 bucks over priced. I had seen the model I was looking for in the 1500 dollar range a handful of times and knew I would find one eventually. These guys are pretty funny. sometimes you come across a lively one. The spelling. phrasing, and grammar was outrageous also.
