Have you ever tried mixing the Celestion V30 with Scumback BM75 in a 4x12? X pattern, or 2 of the same on top and bottom?

Amp is a ‘94 Dual Rec, though I’m looking at used Archons and Uberschalls.

Thanks!

Phil

If the BM75 is any improvement over the G1275's then it would be a killer combo. G1275's and V30's is a proven combo for any metal playing and I'm almost positive is a combination Bogner warrants as an option for his cabinets. V30's tend to be mid-heavy and top end eccentric. Unless the guitars you play are very dark sounding or you play with another guitarist that has a tone that's very dark, you might battle too much brightness.

I didn`t mix with a BM75 but I did mix V30s on the bottom with M75s up top in my Splawn 4x12 and I wasn't too crazy about it. Sounded maybe a bit too mid heavy with not enough sparkle . FWIW I mixed a V30 with a M75 in my Splawn 2x12 and liked it a lot , much better than in the 4x12 but both cabs are in different rooms of my house the room with the 2x12 being smaller so that played a difference I`sure

I had two splawn 4x12's loaded with an X pattern of eminence G12Ms (Splawn's small blocks) and V30s. The low end was massive but the top end was lacking at bedroom volumes - it's a combination that unless you were on kill mode at band practices at all times it otherwise sounded uninspiring.

However, I had a friend with a peavey 5150 2x12 combo, and the V30 and splawn SB sounded great there. So there is definitely something to be said about speaker combinations in a 2x12 working where in a 4x12 they won't.

My 4x12 is a Splawn with the small blocks, which of course sounded amazing when I played Splawn (I did for 10 years). I don’t like the SBs with the Mesa though.

Zombie thread- I know, but I just did this combo in my Bogner OS 2x12 and it KILLS with my XTC 20th and SL67.

I had been running a M75/BM75 mix but I was missing some high end cut and detail. Found a local deal on a Mesa coded V30 and swapped it in over the weekend.

Bam! Exactly what I was looking for. Cut, clarity and detail, but with some warmth and "squish". Zero harshness, zero mud- perfect!

Even there's a 3db sensitivity difference the speakers blend really well.

Hightly recommended!
