Van Halen last night in Japan....

Personally, I really can't stand DLR's vocals on the new album. I can't keep listening to it. It makes me think Eddie has developed a lot of patience with him. I bet EVH hates having to listen to him, but just wants to keep it rolling so he & Wolfie can keep doing the father/son mega tour.

Zeppelin won't do a tour cuz Plant can't hit the notes. DRL was one reason why the last tour was cancelled. 1978' was long, long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away ...

No, what you said is "There will always be a market for EVH, the rest not so much." The fact of the matter is VH fills arenas around the world. The Eddie solo show would not. You're just flat out wrong.

Jesus he's such an ass.

Why is he an ass?

Yes he has such a nice ass. And many men envy Roth.

Man you guys are hard to please.

I'm just happy they are even fucking together and their last album was tight. I heard they were going to do a few more new songs together and then tour some more. Whatever happened to that?

+1. Everbody has an opinion on how it could be done better

Anyone that knew or saw VH in the 70's/early 80's and wants to see them now has no taste in music.

Are people dumb enough to buy tickets now ? Apparently. Seems they're test marketing in other countries.

Japanese will watch anything.

The EVH brand i was refering to was selling guitars & amps not solo tours.

I saw them in 79. You're racking up some good ones. Now "Anyone that knew or saw VH in the 70's/early 80's and wants to see them now has no taste in music." Another laughable comment. Taste is a subjective preference. By definition if someone liked VH in the 70's and they like them now, they have a taste for music, it's just different than yours but that seems to be a concept that eludes you.

Another good one from you... Now only dumb people and of course the Japanese want to see VH.

You do realize they're filling arenas everywhere they play, across the globe, in 2013, and that they have played Japan and the world for over 30 years, no?

I need to laugh at this one again:

"There will always be a market for EVH, the rest not so much."

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Keep them coming. Maybe for your next trick you can insult the Germans and throw in women for good measure.

Give it up Bob and get out more.

Eddie could riff me under the table with one hand but that doesn't mean i'm gonna drop $100 bucks to see the retirement tour.

I'm fairly certain that you're the one who should "give it up." You have made some highly ignorant comments dude.

And by the way, I am just pointing out the ignorance, not defending myself in any way. I haven't seen them live since about 1984.

Diver Down for me, good show and Roth came up into the shitty stage right seats and shook hands & drank Jack Daniels. LOUDEST show ever, prefer to remember them that way .. on top.

I've never understood the "they should quit because I don't like what they do anymore even though they make more money in a year still doing it than I'll make in a life time...and as if I would quit if it were me" mentality. It is rather strange.

Saw them twice last year.

Based on the two previous tours (2004, 2007/08), I wasn't sure what to expect from Ed, but he totally killed it. I give him total props for pulling himself together and getting his chops back up. The dude is now in his late 50s and can still bring it, so I have no problem at all paying $90 or $100 to watch a legend do his thing.

The ironic thing is that just when Ed returns to form, Roth starts falling apart. I know that Roth was never a great singer live, but his major decline from 2008 to now is really mystifying. He is constantly reaching for notes that are so far out of his range, and way higher than what was delivered on the original recordings. And he does it throughout the entire show!! I just don't get why the other guys don't sit him down and tell him to cut that shit out. It sounds horrendous.

Take a listen to the DLR Band album from 1998. He's reaching pretty good there too and using that strained high voice he tries using to hit the notes nowadays.

It's not being a singer and getting old. Their instrument is a part of their body. Not like they can just pick up a new sax and blow.

you know why dave is fucking around with japanese lyrics?
like the dog licks his nuts….DLR can too.
why you ask?
cuz he's been living in japan for the last year and when he ain't getting his back filled up with traditional japanese tattoo work, acting in gangster japanese flicks, studying the japanese language, practicing kendo sword style with a master of the art…he is banging a smoking hot stone fox 23 year old japanese girl you wish you could jerk off to on youporn.
it's that complicated/simple!:

not to mention he is/was a certified EMT tech (and actually worked
as one )

MR. DLR if you pleez !!

I saw them once last year. For guys pushing their 60s, they brought it. From one song right to another with breaks only at sections for solos. Roth is definitely the weakest link, but it is what it is. I didn't have a problem with his voice on ADKOT, which is clearly short of the old days, but he's even struggling getting there live, much less the old stuff. Still a fun show though.

I'll go again. There will be a day we will never hear a note from a guitar from Eddie again, so I'm taking in what I can.

Oh yeah, Dave reaching beyond his range can even be heard on Me Wise Magic, going all the way back to 96, so I hear what you're saying. What I don't get is this: On the 2007/2008 tour, he sounded fine. For the most part, he sang the songs in same range/key as the original recordings. What he's doing now is trying to sing in a register that's way above that, through the entire set! And he never gets there, so it ends up sounding horribly off key. I just don't understand it. And what's even more strange is that if you go back and listen to those clips from Japan the other day, the band is tuned down, presumably to spare Roth's voice, and yet he's still reaching beyond what he needs to do. Makes no sense! Just sing it like on the records Dave. It's easier on your voice, and it will sound way better! Someone needs to intervene, and soon, because he's killing them up there.

I know they did at least through Fair Warning, but think VH has always tuned down a 1/2 step in the Roth era stuff.
