I have heard first hand that it is really good as well.

If I'm understanding you correctly, you have heard the mixes directly? Awesome! Can you tell us anymore about the vibe or the tones? Is it a return to form?

On the 07/08 tour Eddie sounded good to me, not sure if he does know or not but when I saw the tour he sounded good.
Roth's voice is mostly gone.
I've seen some YouTube vids with absolutely HEINOUS EVH playing from that tour and some stuff that wasn't bad. Nothing to write home about at best... For me, the '04 tour was the last straw though. I vowed I'd never pay to see EVH play again walking out that night at Staples and I'm sticking with that...

Yeah, first hand would indicate that you've heard it yourself... I don't think that is what Brad meant though...

Steve

I think he meant he's heard good things from people who are directly involved. Regardless, I'm looking forward to it. EVH has certainly had some bad gigs over the recent years (I was disappointed with the 2004 show), but he was too big of an influence on me to just write him off.

I'll always look forward to hearing what he's been working on.

Dave Friedman is eddie's gear tech and John shanks as well
I'm thinking Brad is hearing from that tone merchants angle

and I was as sick of eddies homeless toothless drunk drug phase as anyone but if he is really trying to clean up and make amends for the last decade of idiocy and put out a record that rekindles some old VH energy then let it be.

That's why I was believing first hand since Brad is in with those guys too.

I thought Chickenfoot already released their album? :)

I hope the new album is good, but I admit, I am not expecting much. I have never heard VHIII....

Here's hoping Eddie's rekindled the spirit that made him want to take up the instrument.

Cautiously Optimistic.

Ed hasnt had good tone in along time, even his new tone is terrible.Eds best tone was Van halen 1 thru fair Warning. After Fair Warning I have no interest.Van halen 1 was the best.

Besides that, the project includes a man who can no longer sing and a man who can no longer play guitar...

Steve
He could play guitar?

Wow, you must have been pissed.

I'm looking at this situation the way I looked at the RATT album, Infestation. It wasn't their best but did have alot of great tunes on it and was an attempt at their old sound. Right now, the last memory I have of a complete Van Halen album was the one when Gary Cherone was singing with them. To this day, it is the worst disaster I've ever heard. There was two good songs on the album (the one they did the video for and "Fire In the Hole") but other than that it was like listening to Liberace or something.

I just hope it is a decent album.

What can possible go wrong???

I guess you haven't actually listened to an Alanis Morissette disc then? They tend to be surprising good. As big of a VH fan as I am, they should be so luck as to put out something as good in quality as one of hers (but in their style, ) regardless of commercial success.

I don't get this either. DLR was never a singer. He was a FRONTMAN. The greatest ever. Even during their prime he barely sang in concert and was known to forget most of the words, but it never truly mattered because he had away of commanding the crowd with his charisma. He was the perfect match for EVH. It didn't matter if EVH messed some shit up or, their off the cuff style is what was awesome live and their tension fueled it. DLR is actually a better singer now than he was then.
