I couldn't agree more. For all of the bashing that Ed has gotten (deservedly so) for his '04 and pre-rehab '08 live playing, he really hasn't done any recordings that completely suck IMO. I may be the only person alive who thought VHIII actually had a few cool moments :D

That said, I've never been a huge EVH fan...I'm much more looking forward to the RR/Ozzy box set

Somebody leak parts of the new tracks already! I'm dying to hear this shit!!

If I agreed with the Music Mans and Peaveys being better comment, I'd yank them off the wall when they come in and keep those instead of the Charvels. The Music Man ones are VERY nice, but that neck shape and those dinky frets and those high output pickups and that basswood/maple top combination all contribute to a guitar that just doesn't jive with me. And we haven't even gotten into the aesthetics which are polarizing to say the least and the ergonomics of no forearm contour.

Like all things Ed in my view, everything about him was cooler when he was younger.... including the parts mutts, Charvels, Ibanez Destroyer, junky pedals and crappy, beat up old Marshall stuff. The EVH 5150III is bad ass though.

I wouldn't mind reading a whole thread about that red, relic'd super strat in your avatar though with lots of pics!

I knew my comment would bring some heat   Not my intent and I suppose a poor choice of words. I agree with you on the EBMM and the small frets - jumbos and that would be the perfect guitar for me. My point really is that aside from the new EVH/Fender Wolfgang he put out gear that played/sounded great at reasonable prices. It's not like some of these other guys that would slap their name on any piece of junk that they could turn a buck on. The production Charvels are nice guitars but back in the 90's EVH's stuff was an excellent value as well. And again, I'm not quite sure what being a drunk has to do with buying an EVH product

Not for nothing but blind faith, back slappers, yes men, and enablers created Ed into this.........................

If the same people really spoke the truth............................

Quoted for truth. When I was living in LA one of my neighbors was working with VH on some demos and recording jam sessions. Just about the time of this video, he said he had never seen Eddie take so much as a sip of alcohol...

And the only reason you aren't selling Digital Jams branded gear is because there isn't any.

Digital Jams branded gear you say?

I have no axe to grind - EVH was my hero, but those days are long gone... The original VH is still my favorite hard rock band of all time. And I thought Dave was a really good singer back in the day who complimented the sound of the band perfectly... It's over though, mainly due to drug and alcohol abuse...

Steve

same way I feel about George Lynch, I have no desire to ever see him live again

big difference
EVH high as fuck = a rock star who can still come back
lynch = a nerdy poser

oh and, without the drugs and alcohol, he wouldn't be very rock n roll
he would been very...paul gilbert

many men agree on this

I'm not sure that video was posted at the time it was taken. He got married in June of 2009 and he had short hair.

This aired in June 2010 and he had short hair...

Looking and sounding a little more like the Eddie we know and love..

And at some point he did the 3 and a Half Men thing sometime in 2009 and he had short hair.

It's possible, I guess, he had long hair in March of 2010 after letting it grow out from the previous summer, only to cut it off again, but I'm kind of having doubts.

My money is the video of him at his party was a few years ago. Whether he was messed up or not I don't know, but it is hard to watch that video. Whatever the deal, he looks FAR healthier and better in later pics and videos and I am damn happy for it.

Add me to those who were huge Lynch fans back in the day who don't care for his current playing. That said, to call him a "nerdy poser" simply makes no sense to me whatsoever. The guy had a unique style and was hugely influential during his heyday...hardly a poser.

actually (puts flame suit on), van halen III is one of my favorite van halen albums, it sees regular play time in my mix of van halen cd's, moreso than most actually. it wasnt tradition VH by any means, but i still thought it was very good.

No, you're not the only person that emerged from 70s and 80s.

I've never understood the VHIII hatred. I'm not a big Cherone fan, but it worked for what they were doing. It's got some awesome guitar writing.

The solo in "One I Want" is one of my favorites.

I saw them at the Key Arena in Seattle, in Dec of 07. That was my first time ever seeing Van Halen, and the only thing I had to go off of was the Albums I grew up with and you tube clips of shows like "Largo in 82", when Ed and the band were at the peak of their game.

I'm sorry to say, that it wasn't even close, which in some ways is to be expected from guys pushing 60. It was a good show, but not a great show by any means. I had it built up in my mind from watching all of the old concert footage to be something much better than it turned out to be. I think I payed something like $150 a ticket, so yeah I'm glad I went, but I'd never pay that kind of money to see them again. The sound was horrible, Ed's tone was super-bright, bordering on ear-piercingly shrill and the songs seemed well-rehearsed, but didn't have the fire that you hear in the old stuff.

Anyways, if they can make some of these "Divas" sound good in the studio, I'm pretty sure they can make DLR sound good. I just hope they wrote some good stuff and pulled it together one last time, but I'm not holding my breath, and I'm certainly not slapping down fat stacks to see another mediocre concert.

I listened to it with the vocals defeated one time, and there was some cool stuff, but the mix is terrible and Cherone sounds pathetic. I don't think it was his fault though - I've read that they were trying to get him to sound like Hagar and it is not really his range. I love Cherone in Extreme, but he sucked in VH and I think it was because of how he was being told to sing the material...

Don't worry Rupe. When Mixohoytian comes in to teach he and I will be having some words on his Lynch bashing. Unless he brings in another bag of avocados from the tree in his backyard. Then he's safe. Heck, I may even bash Lynch if he does that, but between you and me it will be insincere. ;)

Sometimes these kids don't quite have the right perspective of certain players importance as they look back.
