God damn.
Right off the bat. The ‘on fire’ clip. From what EVH was doing back then. Was like nothing how anyone else played. Good stuff!!

It's amazing how time sort of masks how different and fresh it sounded at the time.

I remember I really wanted somebody to take rock guitar and distortion to another level. Then VH1 came out...and it was on.

What I like best about it is that EVH had developed or strayed too far from 70s rock n roll guitar convention at that time. The seeds were all there etc - but he was still showing his roots so to speak. The best was yet to come of course.

I love the early work of my fav bands on the 70s. So much fire!

This is all on Kiss's equipment. Ed took his Les Paul gold top if memory serves, but that's it.

That’s odd because it sounds exactly like the amp Ed used on VH 1

I can see that actually. Listening to the riffs I hear a tad less of that EVH "brown" tone in there. Still sounds awesome and proves the ol' saying about tone being in the fingers.

These are awesome. I'm not an expert on the Brown Sound, but it's there. What makes the brown sound in my opinion is studio stuff. The plate reverbs used had a big part in making the top end shimmer through. Plus not sure what preamps the mics were going into, but makes a big difference what was used.

Good Gawd that was freakin fantastic!!! Thanks a bazillion for posting! Thoroughly enjoyed that. Man they kicked ass!

I was going to mention that the gain seemed a little less but still sounded like Eddie, again illustrating that his attack/technique was a big part of his sound. Similar to the Vai story of his rig instantly getting that sound when Eddie played thru it.

Oh man that is the shiz

Brings back a lot of memories

R&R needed a shot in the arm at that time in history. I was like 10?
