New Van Halen?

I don't think Luke is being tapped to play guitar. I think Luke is being taped to cull through unfinished songs and help produce the project. The real question is who they will pick to sing. Given the feud between Alex and Sammy, I would assume Roth. Which means that I have little interest in hearing it.

I think it would be cool to hear something with Al on drums, Steve on guitar, and some other, 3rd party singer. I don't care to hear Roth or Sammy again on new stuff. It will only disappoint.

I didn't appreciate this tone at the time, but damn this sounds good.......

Damn, Ed's on fire man! I like this era of Van Halen as well as the Roth stuff and as far as I'm concerned it's nice going back and checking it out and appreciating it for what it is! I also really love that 5150 album !!!

I wish everyone would stop with this. There was no magic Marshall. See proof below.

There is magic and it's in Ed's fingers!!!!

That's what I figured too bro'. He has the production and arranging experience and could also "fill in" / replace geetar parts as-required whilst respecting the band's sound and vibe.

I honestly don't think he could pull it off these days.

Voice is no longer anywhere near where it needs to be IMHO.

What about Val and Eds kid?

I know he has his on gig that kicks ass, but I was just thinking out loud

Hasn’t Wolfgang said there’s nothing good worth releasing and he wants to move on?? This just sounds like a project for Alex.

Well there's Dino.

Dude can do just about everything so I'd back him.

he’s a killer but maybe too serious.
vh requires mega personality changing gears with some sense of humor and party swing to nail the spirit of beautiful girls , summer nights, jump, right?

it’s a tough gig for sure!

Yeah, but who's to say he can't do that? Dude's a consumate professional.

Then there's the argument as to how much of that did Sammy bring to the table? VH got by just-fine with him even 'though he's no DLR.

Let's face it, there is no other DLR, but I still reckon Dino could fit the bill nicely. Theatrics mightn't be necessary to the extent that they were during the DLR era.

IMHO. :dunno:

Further to my last reply:

He could easily play riddum geetar for the live shows if there are any. Could also play lead harmony. Could also play any keyboards necessary and even chuck ripping key-lead breaks.

On top of his musicianship, overall musicality and songwriting ability, he's got looks for miles; the chicks will really dig him.

I'll stick my neck out and say that he has the ability to take VH all the way back to #1 on the charts, which of course would be great for hard rock overall.

No Eddie
No Diamond Dave
No Michael Anthony

Sorry, but out of respect for all that came before he should name it Alex, or the Alex Van Halen Group/Experience/etc...

I get it it's his name. I understand he's a beast of a drummer and probably the most famous drummer alive outside of Tommy Lee. No hate, I'm sure it will be a solid rock album, but it ain't Van Halen, or even Van Hagar..Though tbt if he got Sammy to sing, and named it Van Hagar as a FU to all of us, me included, that called them that when Sammy joined the group. It would be frickin' awesome. Even better, they could name it Luke Van Hagar. I'd buy the album just for that alone.

Honestly I’d dig pretty much any AVH project he wanted to do. new music with Luke, unfinished VH stuff, join a super group like Led Zep or the Who….

it would definietly give his career a shot in the arm.

boy that old saying sure has lost it’s luster….😬🙃

and i guess the point regarding a really charismatic showman is there will be inevitable comps to roth and hagar to overcome.

cherone rolling down the stairs was a prime example of a decent singer trying way too hard versus having “it”.

the other thing is they will have to deal with the obvious elephant in the room—the larger than life happy go lucky brotherly love EVH void. maybe a great female vocalist can change the chemistry?

This guy says DLR didn't want to Tribute Ed during a tribute tour so there was fallout. Still working on a Tribute album with Steve and Robert Plant apparently. Steve mentioned using AI to generate Ed's solos for the new material.

All true.

Did I mention that Dino has sung professionally (and live on stage) since he was a kid? He won the Eurovision Junior competition way back in the day.

As a singer he's probably performed with more successful pro musos and bands than anyone his age. That's a lot of experience and stagecraft development.

Lastly, and I forgot to mention this earlier, he can sing clean, gritty, dirty and cookie monster, all perfectly-pitched and with a fantastic range that most don't realise he has 'cause he doesn't show off - just tries to give a song "what it needs".
