I don't get the GT bashing I hear now and then. I never had a problem with their tubes. Couldn't say the same about Sovtek or Tung-Sol. 
I've got a pair of JJ E34L in my 2204, and they sound decent. Ruby EL34BSTR are killer tubes. I've yet to try SED EL34. I've heard nothing but great things about those.

JJE34L's are ok... nothing special
Ruby's are good tubes.
SED's are terrific. I've used them for yours. They're just so damn expensive now. But they do last a long time.

Old Groove tubes are great,,,I got a set of the 6l6ge that are bout 11 yrs old and cant wait ta use them!!!And 4 12ax7c GT that are the 8th gen chinese with the foil getterand 2 12at7 with the foil 8th gen..
I lucked into a set of ancient RCA 6L6s, they sound amazing in my amp (left the GT EL34s in), but I'm afraid to gig with them or anything...any of the other dealers mentioned carry "NOS" tubes?
