Sounds great Mo!
Ever notice though....how you tend to dial in (No matter the amp) pretty similar?
;)

No matter what amp is on my cabs....I like it a CERTAIN WAY.....and tend to dial them in similar.
Your clips sound great though!

Here was my clips of my VH4S....
I tend to go to the HEAVY sides...

Ya fo'shizzle man... Honestly, I backed off a fair bit of the gain on the VH4S in order to get that snarly tone... It was 'in this area of EQ' that both the Crunch Mak4 and the Ch.3 Diezel exhibited similar qualities. I dial my tone in with a lot more gain, and a hella lot louder typically. It was more or less a day of screwing around and testing out this new Zoom H4n recorder.

Still picking through the tracks to find similar solo lines to compare the two.

Peace

Yuppers.........I am getting VERY SIMILAR tones out my FJA modded 5150 as I was with the VH4....
But I dial in amps to sound about the same.....and it always sounds like ME! :D

I am not gassing for nothing these days. But when I buy another amp...it will be a Diezel VH4S. ;)

I found some faster, more detailed riffs and segments in amongst my recordings, only drag is they were played with 2 different axes, so they're not exact comparos of the Mak4 Crunch and the VH4S Ch.3 per se. The ESP NT-II and the LP '57GT differ greatly amp-to-amp.

The reason I used the above clips with the dead spot stops and so forth was a) for noise testing (hiss, fizz, etc.), and b) they were the only two similar lines of notes played with the same guitar on both amps.

I'll be doing a complete Mak4 clip shootout once it's all set up, and use Ch.2 and Ch.3 of the VH4S in higher gain modes as the reference points.

Expect it up in the next couple days - in addition to a bit more of a :rawk: clip as a test pattern!!

Peace :salute:

PS - however, did anyone notice a similarity in Mak4's Crunch to the Diezel's Ch.3...?? Just wondering, I think there's definitely some crossover, where it changes though is once the V goes into it's true "past noon" gain settings and the MV's get kicked up... It's an enitely different amp once that happens :D

they both have the same amount of gain raw variation/chainsaw attitude in their voicing, where the VH4 was more defined less loose gain snarly-ness, and the mak4 was more raspy with more high end in a different frequency location.

IMHO they both sit in the mix identically.

there are quite a few similarities

worth noted that the mak4 scooped sounds like ass on recording, much prefer the mid's on your recordings, not sure how the VH4 take's scooping on recording but im sure most amplifiers are this way with those mics?

Both sound good to my ears  . It's always a little hard for me to pick out differences with my chincey computer speakers. Both sounded very similiar but I tended to like the mak4 tone a little better. But I'm biased since. Did not like the scooped mids clip, but I'm a boosted mids type of guy. I run V30's so that should tell you something.

I'm running a 2502 power amp but at the volume levels I normally run I doubt I'm seeing a whole lot of power tube distortion. Hope too hear some clips with your full rig soon. I'm really stoked about this preamp.

I don't play metal. I play covers and we do classic rock, 80's hard rock, some country, etc. Are you getting good tones for this out of the mak 4? Seems like most of the clips I hear on this thing are more on the metal side.

I bought this thing to simplify my rig which is currently stereo with 2 preamps blended (mp-1 and triaxis). It sounds great for what I do. I'm about as happy with my tone as i've ever been. Problem is, live, it's a bit of a pain and it's confusing for the sound guy because I have to either run 2 mics on my rig, one for each side, or distant mic my cab (sounds like crap), or use a splitter which of course cuts the mic gain in half on each side and screws up the levels. Also, if I need to tweek my patches for room differences I have 2 preamps to try to scroll through menus and tweak at a gig where theres noise, time constraints and often confusion  . I'm looking for 1 preamp that I can easily and simply get my sound and give it to the sound guy with 1 mic. Not to mention some knobs I can turn at a gig really quickly for on the fly adjustments. Sorry to ramble. Short question is what kind of sounds can you getting out of this thing for hard rock, classic rock and country? Wish I didn't have to buy it to try it but if it doesn't work out I'll just have to try to sell it.
