All,
I have an '06 VH4, bought not long ago. I don't think the amp has been re-tubed at all since it was built, and I can detect a bit of flubbiness / undefinition in the tone (particularly channel 3) which I suspect is because of this. Unlikely to be due to guitar / pickups - I have a PRS Custom 24 with HFS.
So, I have resolved to re-tube the amp. However:
1. what type of tubes did the '06 VH4s have as standard? I could just open up the amp but if anyone knows off the top of their head, that would be great; and
2. once I know the type of tube, is it literally a case of removing the old ones and replacing them with an identical set (e.g. 4 x EL34 with 4x EL34) without the need for any biasing?
Thanks!
