VHT/Fryette Pitbull UL vs Sig X

Personally, to me, they seem "close enough". More specifically, if you want features and can live with a slightly less "pure" tone, get a sig:x. If you want tone and can live with less features, get a UL

The preamps of both Deliverance, Sig-X Rhythm channel & Memphis Drive channel are based on the Rhythm channel of the Pittbull's.
The Lead channel of the Sig-X is based on the Lead channel of the Pittbull's.
The Clean channel of the Memphis is based on the Clean channel of the Sig-X.
The GP3 is based on all three channels of the Pittnbull's.
Both the Sig and GP3 have the dynamic sensing feature. On the Sig, the sensitivity is fixed. On the GP3 it's adjustable on the front panel.
The power amp of the UL is similar to the 2150
The Power amp of the Sig X is similar to the 2/90/2

"CLX has a single 12AX7 driver stage, a different power transformer, a different output transformer and Dual Class Mode. It breaks up easier and has a bit more give - besides the EL34 voice.

UL does not have DualClass switch. Never did. Neither model has ever had Enhance Mode - the switchable tube/ss rectifier function.

The differences between the 2 models has varied over time, but has been stable over the last roughly 10 years. http://www.fryette-users.com/forums/sho ... the-vht-ul

Difference between the D60 and D120 is the driver stage. The 120 has a 2-tube driver/PI stage similar to the UL. The 60 has the single stage like the CLX. Preamp voicing is the same, but because of the difference in output and driver stage, the 60 sounds more pissed off compared to the 120 which sounds more like a bulldozer coming down your street."

I spent a few days with all these amps, my LP and a few cabs and ended up with a Sig X and Deliverance 120. I picked these two amps strictly for sound / tone. I usually play NMV single channel amps and features do not mean much to me. None of these amps are really any better or worse..... They are just different.

Supposedly there is going to be a new version of the Sig X. There has been no mention of it in some time..... So do not hold your breath.
"The overall sound will be a little fatter at more moderate volumes.
The clean channel will have a new clean voicing in addition to Bloom and Bright that will replace Spank on the clean channel voicing switch.
The Lead and Rhythm channels will have a little more saturation."

"The new version with KT88s installed will still sound about the same in terms of loudness and headroom.
But yes, with a pair of 6L6s or EL34s installed, the power will be reduced in both modes."

There is going to be a new version of the Deliverance. Effects loop and foot switch for the less/more switch..... 3 or 4 gain stages.

any news of the new versions

i have a clx100 and i have been loving it!

I have a 50CL then an old pittbull classic and an ultra lead and not forgetting the new 1 watt Fryette amp that has a pittbull to deliverance switch..... far as i heard and know the sig x is somehow akin to deliverance that is less forgiving less tight... but its still not loose in my opinion any of these are great amps... like Fryette amps have my collection and these have subtle differences on each others... is very natural too ... and its been my amp to go... it will improve your picking and it shows you your bad without any conditions...

Love Fryette! My d60 is one pissed off sounding rock amp but can do any style equally great...I would buy ANY Fryette just from my experience with the D60. Steve has a great ear and builds incredible amps.

As my needs and taste have changed over the years the Sig X and Deliverance 120 was able to change with me.

I have not seen any update in awhile. Several of the pieces of gear they have made over the years are no longer on the website. Steve made it clear a few times if you ask they will often make some of those products. The Sound City amps I think are out or soon.
Actually there is several projects that are in the works I have not seen any updates recently.

Are the UL and CLX discontinued? I never see new ones for sale.

They are still being made... just not in large numbers. You can still order one direct from Fryette.

Interesting, do you know the difference between the CLX vs UL for rhythm playing?

My humble opinion having owned a UL and a Classic with EQ (effectively a CLX), the UL twas my preference for heavy rhythm, but the CLX was my preference for lead overall. The UL's lack of saturation was the difference. The Classic, while still very responsive, was easier to dig into and get to sing with my pick attack.

I agree. The CLX is just a bit softer, smoother, more liquid... the UL is harder, more thump, thud and a dry unsaturated tone. For rhythm, I'd go UL.

i revived the thread because one post referenced a possibility of a newer version of the sig x.

i have owned an ul in the past a vastly prefer the clx100

-a lot of -(TRUTH!!!)- in this thread, I'm a former UL CLX owner, great amp, would gladly get another if the price was right, they do more than hold there value, I paid less for a mint UL CLX 10 years ago, than what they go for now, that alone tells you something & speaks volume's.
-my first choice would be an 100w UL-(I thought the voicing between the UL & CL/CLX was more than a little)-
-IM SHOCKED!!!.. FLABBERGASTED!!!!.. that only one time! . did the word "DRY" be spoken in a VHT/FRYETTE thread-
-the SIG-X might be the best "do it all, and do it all very well" amp I've played, but still, not quite there.
-not so sure any of the high gainer's, have any saturation in there DNA-

The information about a updated Sig X came from support (Dave) on a other forum about five years ago.It has only been mentioned a few times since then.

Other projects in the works include a updated Deliverance (effects loop and foot switchable More/Less switch), LXII poweramp, Power Load Variable Reactive Load Cab + Mic Emulation, Sound City amps, Steve Fryette is also very involved with the Synergy project and Fane speakers.

I'm probably forgetting a few...

-Sweet!!!- i always wondered why they seemed to turn there backs on the Hi-gainers & focus on other amp's.

I have a 1992 vht pitbull classic (same as a UL but with el34's instead of kt88's), it is dry, and unforgiving as someone else stated. If you are a sloppy player and need to cover that up with saturation, then It may not be the amp for you. If you're sloppy and want to become a better player, and have AMAZING tone then this is the amp for you. If you are a good/tight player, and want AMAZING tone then this may be the amp for you.

The rhythm channel actually does pretty good classic tones, especially through a greenback cab. The lead channel will knock your face in. They are tight chunky, have as much bass, mid, and treb. you could ever want, and a very unique voicing.

It will take a few hours, perhaps a few days for most people to get used to the feel. But once you do, it's good.

I talked to Dave a few months ago and he said the Sig X II is still in the works. I would love to hear it with el34's personally, loved my KT88 loaded model of course (easily one of the best amps I've owned) but am really, really digging my el34 loaded cl50 I recently acquired. The Sig X can cover the vintage/classic rock/clean stuff but I like the feel of the cl50 a bit better and it just slays for all things hard rock and metal.

Awesome .....
Agree there is magic in the EL34. Steve said it took him a decade to develope the Sig X in 2008. Years more of experience and feedback should make for a interesting amp. If they voiced it so it covered more of that modern edge.... More bass / girth and raw I'm sure would be popular. Maybe make the Dynamic Sensing adjustable.
