Does anyone have any info on how the vht preamp stacks up against these other pre's? :)

They are all good preamps. What else you use and what you want to do with it would have a inpact on the tone/texture that you want from them. I have used all but the Engl and would have no problem using any of them for a gig.

All have their own thing going on, they are all great pre's imo. The Fish though is pretty expensive and tough to find.

Oh......

I guess I should engage my brain before making posts !

I'll post pics soon, but in my rack is a bogner fish, soldano x88r,custom shop badcat preamp,Engl se 570,and a triaxis for preamps.Effects are: eventide eclipse,tc.2290.tc.g-force and gl.switchblade for rack interfacing.Power amps are; VHT 2150,and custom shop badcat poweramp-on its way to me.All pro wired. It is a session rig used for clients in studios around my area.I'm looking to add/buy the VHT gp3,or CAE/SUHR preamp..Cant find one to try anywhere?..... : : : :D

Thankyou for your input!

Holy crap that is a nice rack!

I had the GP3 for awhile, ran it through a 2/50/2. Out of those I only have the ENGL E570. Not as much gain of course as the E570, and it has its own voicing going on. Has that VHT voicing you hear on the UL, but I didn't really dig it through the 2/50/2, but through a 2/90/2 or your 2150 it would probably sound much bigger. I know guitarslinger still has his. It's really tight amp and has more than enough gain on tap. If you like the VHT voicing you would like this preamp, if you don't then maybe not. I love the graphic EQ on that thing though, big plus to a preamp

Also, one problem is the unit gets REALLY hot, I didn't notice until a week later, so you have to leave a space between the top and bottom, guitarslinger pointed it out early so it didn't do it any harm :) I hear Steve plans to reissue it, when? No clue..

Also it seems a few people are on the lookout for these as well. I bought/sold mine a few months ago for $1100 so they are around that price used I guess. Really hard to come around for some odd reason, it took me 2 months or so to find one

Pics of the rack now!

The best way to do it is to send me all your gear so that I can take pics of them and post them here. ;) :D

Welcome to the forum, man! Upload the pics to photobucket or so, copy pic's address and after that post a comment or reply. At the window to which you write your reply, you can find an icon which says "insert an image" or something and when you click that icon, you can paste that pic's address into that pop-up window. God how complicated I made it sound.

I had the GP3 for about a year or more when it first came out. It was a good preamp but not GREAT to me. . I personally don't think that many were sold and that's why you don't find many used ones now.. There were about 5-10 of them available used via the net when they were new, but I only see them once in awhile now.

I thought the GP3 had potential but it wasn't better than my amps. The clean channel to me was ok . . The 2nd channel was EXCELLENT. However , although it was a midi-controllable preamp , they didn't allow for the hi-gain /lo-gain option on Channel 2 to be switched via midi , and those were the 2 best features of that channel (once again , to me ,and in my opinion) .. Those NEEDED to be switchable by foot pedal for me to keep the preamp but they weren't . (If I'm recalling correctly as it's been quite a few years) . .. Channel 3 was very similar to Channel2 to me but not as nice. (it was similar to a Marshall 2501 jcm900 or 30th anniversary 3rd channel (6101) I basically liked the preamp a lot for channel 2 but just wanted to love all the channels on it.

I have old Engl preamps like the 520 that I like the lead tone more on that. I had a Rocktron/Egnater ie4 that was also good but not exceptional . I still have a few Ada Mp'1's that I like tones on a lot, but really don't use currently . I have a Mike Morin preamp which is fantastic. I had a Marshall JMP1 and that would be a tossup whether or not I preferred that or the VHT Gp3. I sold that too , as my amps are just better. I still have the Axe-Fx also and have since they began selling them , and although I don't use it instead of my amps too much currently , it's my favorite of all those BY FAR .

Good luck! ERIC

[... large summation of cool stuff ...]

Cool rig you've got there...

I assume with preamps such as Bogner, Soldano, Mesa and Engl you've got pretty much all bases covered already. Elmwood recently released preamp editions of their Modenas, and perhaps Diezel will come up with a preamp soon... Just an idea.

You're the guy selling the Engl 570 on ebay right? I'd love one , but I have more amps than our local music stores!!

Actually to correct you, Elmwood released a rack version of the full amp head of the Modena's, not preamp.

Also, Little B, I'm the one who messaged you on eBay and we had a few e-mails back and forth about your BadCat preamp if you remember. Welcome to the board! :)
