I’ve owned the Einstein and D-Moll, and had a UL for a couple of weeks. I liked the D Moll the best.
Did you have the 35W or 50W and what was your reason for selling it?I've had a Bogner Ecstasy 3534
I had the 35 watt ...... I loved the cleans !! the plexi - ish channel was OK ..... and the red channel ( I think ) just didn't knock my socks off ...Did you have the 35W or 50W and what was your reason for selling it?
I concur with stuff that others have voiced; if you want to sum up both amps in 1 word each, Fryette=clarity. Dmoll=thickness.
But where most Friedmans have this thick, gooey, polished thing going on, the Dmoll had less 'goo' and more wooly fuzziness in the low mids. So while it's definitely more 'hairy' sounding than most Friedmans (apparently his new José gets plenty raw), it was also quite congested, and in a way I couldn't dial out.
Since @MetalHeadMike and my tastes seem similar when it comes to what we love about the Engl Savage, that's probably also the reason we didn't like the Dmoll... Even with the mid-cut function, I couldn't get the Dmoll to sound as tight as a Savage (or a Fryette Sig:X for that matter).
The Dmoll *does* have some of the best cleans around though and I preferred them by a lot compared to the Sig:X I had...if that's anything to go on regarding Fryette cleans of course...
Great description for the VHT. More so the CL series. These amps are very much opposites. The Fryette’s are open, clear/articulate, punchy, but also imo dry, hollow mids and a little sterile in some ways tone wise for my taste
The Diezel’s are more thick, low mid dominant amps. The D-moll was one of my least favorite Diezel’s. Really wouldn’t recommend that one. Haven’t tried an Einstein, but some clips of it sounded good
I don’t honestly love either of those options, but maybe worthwhile if the price is good enough. Not sure what the going rate is for either amp these days, but may be able to recommend other stuff I like more in the price range
I heard it on all their models I’ve played/had (UL, CL and Deliverance). The VHT products I’m sold on have been their poweramps and Fatbottom cabGreat description for the VHT. More so the CL series.

I've come close to pulling the trigger on a few Bassmans ... what keeps from doing it is " No loop "Get a mid to late 60’s Bassman and with one of your pedals it would absolutely crush and you’ll also have an amp that sounds amazing cranked on it’s own.
Or a Showman head and a Rat pedal![]()
Just get an attenuator with a loop, if you don’t have one already. Or look for a Tone Master head. CH 1 is a bassman/plexi tone when you crank it up and that amp has two loopsI've come close to pulling the trigger on a few Bassmans ... what keeps from doing it is " No loop "
I need my FX Loop
My buddy is selling a 90's Tonemaster head in mint condition, but I don't want to tell anyone because I want it. Total monster amp.Just get an attenuator with a loop, if you don’t have one already. I love CH 1 but don’t care for the gain on CH 2. I’ve always wondered if CH 2 could be modded to have a better attack. My buddy is selling a 90's Tonemaster head in mint condition, but I don't want to tell anyone because I want it. Total monster amp.
I just like it as a 1 channel amp, with a Chiron or 808...it's what I neeeeedI love CH 1 but don’t care for the gain on CH 2. I’ve always wondered if CH 2 could be modded to have a better attack.
I'm really leaning on grabbing the CL ....... I've wanted a Pittbull before I even knew what a Diezel was ....I'd probably pick the UL unless you need the midi switching. I liked the DMoll, but preferred the Herbert and VH4. I still have the CL100 w/eq. It's a very fun amp to play IMO, I don't find it super sterile or unforgiving. I would agree with the other opinions, on the drier side, but very tight, punchy and articulate. I don't have any experience with the UL for comparison, but preferred the CL over my D120 as well. The D120 is no slouch either.
Most people seem to prefer the UL. I had a UL and have the CLX. Same preamp but different power section. The UL is slightly tighter, but I thought the power section on the CLX had a little more character. That ultra lead would stay insanely clean with no break up in the gain sectionI'd probably pick the UL unless you need the midi switching. I liked the DMoll, but preferred the Herbert and VH4. Interesting. I'd like to play the UL, but from your description, I think the CL or CLX would be my huckleberry. Would definitely like to try the CLX as well. Most people seem to prefer the UL.
