Amp ho
Looking to get two 1x12's for wet cabs for my home set up. Anyone have a preference on open vs closed back for these? Feel like open back would make a lot of sense, but I'm just not very experienced with this set up. Dry cabs are two closed back StoneAge 2x12's (one with V30's, one with GB's)

Just get another 2/12 with v30`s . Greenbacks in the middle /dry cab. bam

If you are dead set on two 1x12s, get a couple of the Mesa thiele cabinets with ev12Ls.

Otherwise I think panhead is right, get one more cabinet and use it as the dry/middle.

Any other stereo 1x12s you get aren't really going to do what you want except at really low volumes.

Keeping both 2x12s dry would be ideal. That mix is the core of the sound and sounds so damn good. Running a single StoneAge 1x12 I had around as the wet right now and it sounds great honestly. But getting another 1x12 for the other side would be even better I suspect. The OCD part of me wants to get matching 1x12s. This 1x12 was really expensive and for the price of another I could get two of pretty much any brand already loaded with a V30s speaker

Yeah, I totally know the ocd thing with having them "match."

If you're dead set on doing it that way, you're going to do it. So get a matching one.

But performance wise, I'm telling you, another v30 1x12 is probably only going to do what you want up to a certain volume level.

So it will work fine at home, but otherwise you're gonna need something with super high headroom and projection to get away with stereo 1x12s - like at full jamming with a metal band volume.

As Dan suggested the Thiele is the way to go for a 1x12. Of course my suggestion is all 4x12s….for the best sonic experience
?

This is always the best way. Unfortunately given the size of the stages I play, I could never get away with it.

That's why I put together my w/d with one stereo 4x12.

I imagine if OP just grabs another stone age v30, he'll be fine for home volumes, but unless every one of the cabs is miced he's gonna have some trouble in a full band mix.

Ha I knew this would come up. Just not happening here at home with this rig. I really dig these 2x12's for what I do. I do use a 4x12 with the band

Well this is strictly a madison square office set up for getting inspired, jamming, learning new material etc. This is where I play the most guitar and figure why not make it sound killer. Just adding that 1x12 as the single wet really widened everything and got me excited. Using the fx return/power amp of another amp to power the wet side so no stereo abilities...yet. Eyeballing some matrix stuff already though...rabbit hole ahead

I did the exact same thing.

I started messing around with w/d and stereo w/d/w in my home practice setup, and it changed my world. Like, enough to where I completely redid my live rig because I couldn't live without w/d on my time fx for leads.

i ended up using the line out of my Larry into a fryette powerstation for the wet side of my stereo 4x12, with fx through the PS1 loop.

there are serious space considerations on most of my live gigs, so I could only realistically go w/d instead of stereo wdw, but as "concessions" go, a wet dry Larry rig will have to suffice :ROFLMAO: plus, I can use the power station and a pedal for an emergency backup if my amp goes down at a gig. By virtue of rackmounting the PS1 and some fx, and using a single stereo 4x12, I can fit a lot of w/d goodness into a relatively sane sized live rig.

Just prepared to eventually convert your live rig, because it's ADDICTING man.

One thing you can try, seeing that you use the loop on the PS is run the line out from the Larry into your FX unit, then out to the PS line in then out to the cab. Bypassing the loop altogether should give you an even better tone for your wet cab.

It does sound better. But I have to run rack fx as well as pedals, and it simplifies the setup somewhat - one cord from the Larry to the PS, etc.

Edit: actually, if I ever found a rack unit that could do what my LWA Acheron does, i would *definitely* wire it up like you suggest @Racerxrated

I run a Lexicon MPX-1 and 2 pedals using a Musicom Labs Parallelizer. I can turn each FX on or off separately and blend in dry to the wet cab. So basically go from amp line out to Parallelizer in, then out/back to each FX unit, then out to the PS100 line in, then PS100 to wet cab. Sounds awesome.

Yoooooo good shout @mhenson42

I've never heard of this parallelizer before - how much do they run? Where are they available? I NEED one of these now lol.

Also, how do you like the mpx delays for lead stuff? Can you do more than one delay line at once/panning control?

I'm pretty picky about the time based stuff for lead tones, and slowly trying to get a handle on what units could work, and what ones wouldn't.

You can get them on Reverb or there's a shop in Dallas area called Guitar Sanctuary that carries them.

I really only use the Lexicon for a little delay/reverb and occasionally some chorus. I'm not that well versed in it beyond anything basic so I can't really answer your question. I will say it's kind of a pain in the ass to program...so I mostly use the Styrmons for their ease of use, but I think the Lexicon sounds a little better.

Sweet, thanks for the tip man. I had no idea that existed, or else I would have already bought one.

And yes, I'm just curious about the rack unit, because if I can get all the wet stuff in the rack, my relatively simple setup gets a lot simpler.
