well besides listening to a lot to get a feel for this beautiful music

here's how:

http://www.amazon.com/Hal-Leonard-Guitar-Method-Songbooks/dp/0634001442/sr=8-1/qid=1157504547/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-0239367-6116759?ie=UTF8&s=books

great book.

now of course this isn't the end all jazz guitar book. but it's a great starting point. i've gone from not knowing jack about how to play jazz guitar to being able to read jazz charts with fair to moderate ease.

now with that said, i'm no jazz guitar vitruoso nor am i the best improvisational guitarist (yet) but i'm on my way!

also, it doesn't hurt to learn the blues. i really am not a fan of the blues but my guitar teacher pushed me to learn the blues and the relationships of I-iV-V and of course my pentatonics.

i always see "how do i start learning jazz guitar threads"...i've even contributed to the confusion quite a few times :D

but i really really recommend this book if you want a starting point!
